Just focus on New York for simplicity. Somewhere, I saw some statistics not on COVID-19 deaths in NY, but on the "number of deaths above expected value for this time period" or something like that. I can't find the data at the moment (maybe someone out there can?), but it's probably the best way to figure out if (and by how much) the reported COVID-19 deaths are inflated.

The people making the decisions have to trust their decision but also be flexible enough to move in either direction quickly if the data dictates it. It is honestly a no win situation for them. Although some seem to be handling better than others when it comes to the science, their individual State, and pressure from various influences.

They had to do something to make up for the inability to test many likely death situations. It sort of goes both ways here. It is also not politicians deciding what is classified as a likely death by COVID19.

It's probably the total opposite. Deaths were being under reported and deflated by lack of testing. Probable cause allows medical examiners to code deaths based on other factors, which is not uncommon. Most people who die do not undergo an autopsy. In fact, less than 10% of people actually receive an autopsy when they die, so 90% of all deaths in America are based on "probable cause".

A co-worker told me one of her relatives was transferred to an ER at a different hospital. A family of 4 came in from an auto accident and all unfortunately ended up dying. She was told by a superior to mark them all down as COVID. She refused and went back home that day.

Now, I trust this co-worker. HOWEVER, I don't know her relative so that could be total BS. As others have said, it's hard to decided what to believe these days.

That's how crap gets spread. When the country first shut down a relative of a co-worker of my best friend said her uncle (who is a higher ranked person in the Air Force) told her that Covid was a cover up for an alien invasion and that we were shutting down to keep people safe. He was dead serious. Needless to say I didn't believe it but knowing his position in the Air Force I kind of had an inkling to wait it out and see what happened. I feel very foolish about that now. Point being, you can't really trust anyone even if you think they are in a position that is trustworthy.

My mom has now tested positive and was admitted into the hospital yesterday. Looks like she's been symptomatic for maybe 5-6 days now.
Crossing my fingers that she can beat this like my friends mom did.

The government is covering bills for Covid patients that don't have insurance, I'll draw my own conclusions.

Perfect example. You believe the numbers are being inflated by hospitals due to compensation. Others in here believe the numbers are being inflated for political gain. Even the people who believe in inflated numbers aren't in agreement on WHY they are being inflated. Now add in those of us who believe the numbers are not inflated and our potentially differing reasons for that. There are so many sides to this debate.

I originally had plans to switch the current car to 2020 Bentayga but instead I've decided to donate a portion of the funds that would've went into the difference in upgrading the vehicle.
Donated a decent amount so far and before my son was diagnosed with autism, I was one of the most selfish and self centered human being I knew.
With the struggles we've had as a family and challenges he may face later in life may me a better person and start looking at life different and realized it's okay to be kind to others and not be so damn selfish all the damn time.
I'll continue to do my part which is donating funds since I have no other capabilities contributing to the vaccine or curing the Rona.
My challenge still stands, You make a donation and I'll double or triple it.

Now back to original program of trolling.

People who are working from home and still getting their regular pay or people who are not struggling for funds = Lock everything down until it clears and I'm still making money!
CNN Crowd

People who have lost their jobs or small business owners who are struggling = Open everything back up! This is not as serious as media is making it and I need to make money!!

I would imagine their are significant penalties for blatantly lying about cause of death.

To be exact, the autopsy rate in this country is 8.5%. The other 91.5% of deaths are based on educated guesses, which is not at all indicative of a lack of competency. They look at the evidence in front of them and make the call based on that evidence. In some cases it's obvious, in others maybe not so much. There's no reason that COVID should be excluded from this. If a person comes in with anosmia, fever, shortness of breath, and coughing and dies before a test can be performed, why shouldn't they be coded as COVID? MAYBE a few were actually flu or pneumonia. That's possible. But the margin of error wouldn't be so great that any reasonable person could call these numbers fake.

To play devil's advocate.. how would you know, though? If they're not able to test someone.

Wow ... Cuomo just announced the results of their antibody study. Amazing.

NY City ... 21% of the sample tested positive. The spread there is real (which means they'll recover faster). Makes you wonder just what we accomplish w/ the lock-down knowing that millions still got the virus. And now that we know the virus was here so many weeks before we thought (Santa Clara autopsies) ... pretty crazy.

I'm pretty selfish too. But my GF & I are pretty fortunate to be able to continue working from home. We forwarded our stimulus $$ to the local food bank (and will probably continue to add more later). I'm kind of surprised something like this didn't become a trend. Or maybe it has, and the media isn't sharing.
