Agree. Two weeks ago the going rate was about $3,250. Some give/take based on centering. Once this peak rocks back, and it will when the doc ends and real basketball is back, probably $4k?

I've been through 7s, 8s, and 9s in each of the big 3s holders. Through fazes of liking the black border of an SGC slab, the uber protection of the a BGS slab, and settling on the PSA. Couldn't justify holding a 9 when I found an 8 with perfect register. Two kids in college and a third headed there. Real life. Where I've sat for a bit and will stay.

The 1987 on the other hand, I think that one has been under priced for a while. Eights at $300 seems reasonable to me. Even $400.

I probably should have just hit the BIN on all these but I wanted to give you guys a chance at some of these steals. You can thank me later from the deck of your beach front property when you flip these for 10x once the doc is out.

New collectors have no clue how shady the Jordan card market can be. Remember the blog that would track the "weekly sales records" being shattered on 90s inserts back in 2012-2015? Or the people that would incessantly defend those sales here and elsewhere, saying everyone was a fool for questioning them? Pepperidge Farm remembers....

I think 8s will be sub 4K. Back in feb I was pondering a Lebron Chrome refractor and a Jordan 1987 Fleer rookie (which I need to replace some day). I ultimately decided to go with a star 101 8.5 when I pulled the trigger. I felt the price relative to the other two options was better. The grade was closer to “elite” for that card, they are more scarce by comparison, and they did not see the drastic run up to the same level of precipitous rise over a short period as the Fleer and TC refractor did.

When assets move like cryptocurrency, especially cards that are always widely available to acquire, its only natural that they would have similar downside price risk eventually.

Will the 96-97 Topps Chrome Jordan go down in price after the documentary? I want one, but prices are getting out of hand. I see what the 2012 LeBron Prizms are doing and I start to think that maybe, just maybe, the first chrome card of the GOAT is a $300 - $400 card.

I think demand is going to simmer down either 2-3 months after the doc or once the NBA starts again (whichever happens first).

Not sure where prices will settle though. We're still a week away from TLD and prices are crazy.

Not a big Jordan collector but I would always send in some here and there when I submitted for grading. I kept one of every PSA 10 and would sell the dupes and PSA 9's. So I'm sitting on 22 different PSA 10's base and inserts from 1991 to 1999....nothing super special. 96 SPx RB1, H1 and #8 as well as the 92 McDonald's CH4 and 96 SC Top Crop. Those are probably the best of the lot.
I also put together complete 86 fleer sticker sets in PSA 6, 7, 8(2) and 9. The 9 set is still incomplete as I haven't got the Jabbar yet.
I'm trying to find a good reason NOT to sell these Jordans at the prices they are bringing. I don't see where it's not possible to replace them down the road if I really wanted them back most likely at half of what they are bringing today...or at least 75%.

I said I would sell this card if it hit $1000 for a nice raw copy, and buy vintage graded. I looked on ebay completed listings and an Australian seller got $1025 for his ungraded nice copy. I can't sell it though, because I PC Michael Jordan and this card is a classic insert. I'd rather have it than what I was going to buy. Damn sentimental feelings kicked in.

I was going to create a new thread to get advice on this topic but since it’s in so many threads didn’t want to create yet another one. Im in the process of cleaning up my closet and getting rid of bulk to save space. I pegged all the cards in the link below at no more than $1per and figured I’d discount that further to get rid of quickly as a lot. Anyone have any insights about them or some of them being worth more? I haven’t had the time to look up each MJ.

Haven't poured through this thread in its entirety, but the 1991 Upper Deck SP1 is still a good value.

Classic 90s card. I just grabbed a cheap 9

Needless to say a bad move.

All that said, anyone buying PSA 8 Jordan’s at 5500 are going to get raked over the coals. When I was looking to add a Jordan a few months ago I pondered a PSA 9 Jordan rookie but felt it was still too high. We went through a Jordan rookie pump before, and they came down substantially again (though not to same levels). The card is simply too available and plentiful to sustain 8 prices at that level. Once the doc has come and gone and a new season comes later this fall there will be deflation in the prices. If your in for the flip, now is the time to strike, if your in for the long haul, it doesn’t make sense to buy in this market.

The thing that's a little different here is that the entire market is trending upwards and has been for a while. IMO Jordan stuff, especially his RC have actually been somewhat stagnant relative to what we've seen from LeBron, Luka, Zion, etc. Obviously there's a big pump going on here, but when you look at PSA 10 LeBron TCs and Giannis PSA 10 Prizms, once the pump subsided, they still held 80% of their value. With an iconic card like Jordan's I don't see anything different happening.

A blind person can see that prices are inflated w/ FOMO and the excitement of the doc. And everyone is sure that the prices will settle after the doc is over, but when will his stuff peak during this process? The day after Episode 1 & 2? OR not until the doc is nearing the end? Thoughts?

Picked up a large basketball lot a few years ago and it had a couple boxes of MJ, even his rookie sticker. Almost gave it up to another Blowout member for football but had my family in town and decided to keep it.

The oversized oddball stuff that is in his baseball uniform, I'll have to check on, but I'm not sure about the Wheaties boxes of him pictured on it are exploding?

I'm going to say end of the doc.... don't think we'd see prices going like this if there was sports on.

I think we'll see a steady stream of a peak all the way through this series..

Should be funny to watch..

As an Australian this could be the very worst time in history to buy Michael Jordan cards bar being an 8 year old with no money.

Ausd is horrendous vs the USD and now an explosion on Jordan prices. Yikes

The non-graded base cards don’t look particularly crazy on eBay? There are some exceptions like Chrome. Am I missing something?

I've picked up a BGS 9 Net Rageous a few days ago, which I'm very happy about, plus I've purchased a very nice lot yesterday from a local guy, and I think it was a steal as well (I've paid $680 for the 5 cards below):

1 x BGS 9.5 N-Tense
1 x BGS 9 N-Tense (True Mint with 9.5 on Centering)
1 x 93-94 Finest base (raw)
1 x 95-96 Beam Team Die Cut (raw)
1 x RockStars non refractor (raw)

All raw cards are in perfect condition, I'll get all 3 graded once PSA/Beckett will open again. He told me, that he is aware of eBay prices, but he just doesn't think that any of these are real, and he thinks that this is the real value of the cards.

I didn't plan to spend more right now, but the same guy who I've bought my Net Rageour from just contacted me and offered a BGS 9.5 97-98 Planet Metal for $1.4K instead of his original $1.5K listing price. It's very tempting seeing the other prices, especially the price of the the Metal Universe base...

I'm getting back into collecting Jordan again and saw this. Is this another example of inflation or is this the new norm?

Yes the whole asset class is over valued. When the general accepted point of view is that every sale is higher than the last, that cycle will have to break. Should jordAn RC price be up given the spike in Lebron TC? Maybe it’s reasonable to assume so. But there seems to be a cyclical reference here. First Kobe stuff spiked with his death, and people said his stuff was undervalued. Then the argument was Lebron was undervalued relative to Kobe and others and that caused a spike. Now Jordan is undervalued relative to Lebron. I see threads saying - well with Jordan rise in price is Kobe next?

When does that pattern end? I’m not saying prices will crash, I’m not saying money can’t be made or there is no legitimate sales. But, I’d love to know how many legit collectors are buying 2500 metal base cards or 5500 PSA 8s.
