If your kids daycare or schools were still open while your offices were shut down, would you still send your kids out? If your answer is yes, then you aren't understanding how this works.
So how long would you keep everyone inside?

Nobody is being forced to stay inside. But, as for as the quarantine, I would be following that direction for as long as our health professionals are saying to do so. I'm not reckless enough to believe I know more than them.

So wait, are we suffering right now because our government is absolutely refusing to exercise its emergency powers or because it’s rapidly usurping power and transforming into an authoritarian dictatorship?

Because I’m seeing headlines for both on the same news sites.

Those claims just feel more either/or than both/and.

For those needing a morale boost (not):

https://theweek.com/articles/906434/...g-going-darker

The aggregate mental health toll of going too much longer like this also bears factoring into the conversation, and I shudder to think to what it must be like for victims of domestic abuse, etc.

I see sites saying we can learn from California on how to flatten the curve then another site saying their cases are soaring. I believe nothing

My wife's colleague passed away.

Late 40s, healthy, not known to have any underlying health issues....

Leaves behind 3 children and a spouse.

As a Southern California native my whole life, I’m very proud the way we have handled it so far. I believe we were the 1st State to lockdown. Social Distancing practices are in full effect. Almost all of the stores have the yellow lines where to stand to keep 6 feet apart, they only let a certain amount of people at a time. Sure, there are exceptions but for the most part, the number of cases and deaths is extremely low considering the population. Obviously what also saved us is the lack of public transportation. Unlike NY/NJ, everybody gets around by car as opposed to train/subway.

And we did this, without a way out. Never go into a room you don't know how to get out of. And this is the problem.
So you just ignore all of the medical experts who are saying younger people who were once considered "not at risk" can have the virus, not show symptoms, and spread to to dozens of people who will turn around and spread it to dozens more? The most entertaining and pathetic part of this thread is seeing people still trying to claim this isn't a big thing or it's as simple as just keeping "at-risk" people home and the problem will work itself out. I went back and looked over the early pages of this thread and the amount of people who completely dismissed COVID-19 and who are still trying to backup those claims is mind-boggling.

I don't know what you do for a living, but I am assuming you aren't a doctor, or a scientist, or someone who has experiences with infectious diseases or viruses...why do you dismiss the information given to us by professionals?

I don’t know what anyone really does for a living on this site but I bet no one works with infectious diseases or have any clue about anything. People have opinions. You don’t have to listen to them. In fact, why would you listen to anyone on here or get upset about it? Last night one guy got so mad he called him a tool and said he’s going on his ignore list. So nanabooboo stick your head in doodoo. That was his response. Like anyone cares if someone can’t handle another member that they put them on their ignore list. Just hilarious how people respond and react to all this.

It's also been heartening to see, so far anyway, our people treating each other better and not worse as we make our way through this. The mouth-and-nose coverings when out in public will be widely embraced this week here, just like the previous recommendations have been.

the average iq of the public is likely between 17-25........... and the members on here i would venture to say is slightly higher; think about that for a moment and be amazed

in the end; the significant fallout will be due to your average person's stupidity and inability to process information.... plain and simple, no other way around it.

there are quality arguments to be made both ways...... decisions have to be made, but few are willing to use common sense and/or logic to process any of the provided information
