100% get paid based on what they haul. The guys hauling oilfield equipment that weighs over 200K make more than the guys hauling manufactured houses.

I know in Texas we put caps on how much weight you can haul for non-agricultural goods and agricultural goods. You literally can’t haul more than 84,000 pounds of these commodities, so absolutely you take into account your transportation costs when it comes to farming/growing.

Buddies went on the boat yesterday but I didn’t go because I ain’t got no good sea legs.
How do you fit this all into your schedule when you are on here 24-7

When you have this kind of attitude about a virus that is very harmful to older people or people that are immune compromised, this lack of nuance is how we wind up with even worse cures than the disease. Shutting the young and potentially asymptomatic in with the infirm is how this virus spreads and proves fatal.

Targeted isolation/sequester would save a lot of these folks from harm and allow the healthy to get by with herd immunity (like we have done with every outbreak).

Or we can use the pseudoscience of full blown quarantine and screw everyone else (and the sick).

One thing this thread has elucidated for me is that a lot of people out there that are terrible at science, math and civics.

I believe most get paid by the mile, not by the weight.
The eight restrictions have to do with safety and wear and tear on the roads.
In iowa our rate restrictions are raised during harvest season.

Those guys that haul short heavy loads are probably hourly. Some loads are more valuable so the tractor owner can charge a premium to transport. Very few instances actually pay by weight. 99% of OTR is either hourly or by mile

I’m just stating how it works in Texas. I know each state is different on how they handle permitting.

I’m one of a few who manage the office for Texas, so this is probably the ONE thing I can speak to from a point of “expertise”.

I can’t tell you how many companies I’ve helped direct with this who have shifted what they want to haul and/or farm based upon these regulations. I can’t tell you how many truckers I’ve worked with who want to haul heavy equipment because it’s so much more lucrative to do (and will cost you a hell of a lot more to permit).

It’s not a black and white answer, but MANY people take all of this into account when deciding what they want to grow and haul.

I used to drive a truck, and I got paid by the hour. But you're right, a lot of long haul truckers get paid by the mile and some who are in business for themselves get paid by the load. Most large freight companies charge customers by weight, but that doesn't have much to do with the driver's pay.

Yes. But let's watch the coy "play dumb" routine continue.

I agree on targeting quarantining but that would be very hard to carry out. We’re screwed for a while no matter what we attempt.

I’m in 3 of the “ high risk” groups and I deeply apologize if this “ screws everyone else . I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to . Herd immunity ? Really? You still haven’t said how having these statistics will change your daily life when we all need to be simply self isolating.
When the AIDS virus first surfaced in the US Haitian people, incorrectly, were said to be the source of the virus . They needlessly suffered greatly. This is the situation that needs to be avoided

Same. In a perfect world we’d be able to accomplish that. Logistically it would be an absolute nightmare and isn’t a real feasible solution.

I do think this is where immediate results from testing may be able to help once we get it better under control. Its not going to cut off any time here on the front end of this, but potentially on the backend it will.

How would they be stigmatized and discriminated against? Can you really tell the difference between a 50 and 60 year old person, if you saw them out in public? Is the fake ID business going to start booming?

I think back to 9-11. In the immediate aftermath, there were reports that there were violence against Indian Sikh (sp?). They weren’t Islamic but were still harassed for wearing headware and being similar in color to the hijackers. I believe one was even murdered as he was pumping gas. Same thing.

So you think the old people are going to get harassed and murdered?

If you think a old person has a virus, why would someone go up to them and beat them up?
