I'll probably be alright, but I'm trying to keep my fellow employees working as much as I can, and will accept any help the government offer to do so since they created this mess. If my company had been in this position due to poor management, planning, or any other self made reason, it is not the government responsibility to prop it up. Same applies to the individual level too.

But you guys obviously cant tell the difference, and are getting all excited about the prospect of your beloved socialism coming to fruition.

they can't come to an agreement on the amount. The last thing I saw was sometime in Apr. and if things don't get better another in May.

They're gonna screw it up.

But no matter what, by Friday, we need a date to look forward to in terms of opening back up the country. The CDC wanted 15 days, the country will give them 15 days. Beyond that, we need a concrete time-line.

Really pulling for NY to give it to them.

That's why the national guard is starting to mobilize into position. The next step will be "we asked nice, but you didn't comply. So now you're forced to stay in."

The fact that they are throwing the entire economy into the crapper still defys logic. Even if it only lasts a few weeks, the damage will be done. And the cost to get back on our feet is going to be tremendous. Not only will the government have taken on a lot more debt, but their income will be down from all the unemployed not paying income tax. It will trickle down to the state and local governments as no one is spending money, so no sales tax. Imagine the money Vegas is losing each day alone on their resort fees.

So she decided to have surgery at an out of network hospital and that is somehow not her fault. Seems like a simple phone call to check that would have stopped her from having a ton of medical debt.

You seem broke, defeated and annoyed. Perhaps you should work harder.

Broke as in my psyche or as in my wallet? Could be right on both accounts.

If I'm being completely honest, when I see the arguments against socialistic programs like universal healthcare, they almost always seem to involve self interest and selfishness. It seems like even if they would end up paying less for their own healthcare via taxes versus an insurance system, just the fact that someone else might "get" something that the other person feels they don't "deserve" makes them be against it.

"My insurance works for me," "Why should I have to pay for someone else's care," "If everyone worked as hard as me, they could afford good healthcare."

Life isn't all about you. Other people exist in the world and have just as much right to have their needs met as you do. We have the technology and wealth as a nation to take care of our citizens. I don't mean pay for every single thing someone wants in life, but make sure that getting sick isn't something they have to worry about causing financial hardship.

Basic healthcare is and should be a universal human right. Overall capitalism is mostly good, but there are places it doesn't belong, and in healthcare is one of them. Pharma bros shouldn't be able to quadruple the price of an essential drug just so they can push some stock up. Corporations shouldn't be able to patent a lifesaving tool or a human gene so that they can force prices up. An insurance company shouldn't be able to sort through thousands of loopholes and policies so they can deny your claim and try to not let you receive care recommended by a doctor.

So yeah, the state of for profit healthcare in this country has me broken, defeated, and annoyed. I will never understand someone who looks at a person in need of care and thinks, "How can I figure out a way to profit from this."

Yes. I very clearly stated that I agree with helping out these businesses. It's the hypocrisy I don't like.

One of the things I didn’t like about the tax cut bill was that it cut too much for C corporations(typically big companies) compared to S corporations(small businesses)

I simply cannot comprehend how people in this thread still don’t think this is a big deal. Do you not see what’s happening in Italy? Do you not understand that the US is weeks away from that? Do you not hear doctors and nurses talking about how they don’t have the necessary equipment to handle the anticipated volume? Serious question: how can you not take it seriously?

I sure hope you're right, but if it doesn't get there, it's because enough people are taking the social distancing seriously enough to make an impact.

But when you have NYC officials saying they are a couple weeks away from running out of the medical supplies they need, while their known cases are going up in the thousands each day, it's still very much up in the air right now. NY alone has almost as many cases as the rest of the country combined and you've got to imagine California is going to have an explosion of known cases soon too.

The US as a whole may never be like Italy, but certain states and cities are almost all but assured to get to that point unfortunately. Hopefully never as bad as it is there with 300-400ish people now dying every day, but this thing is nowhere near under control right now and is still only getting worse at the moment.
