If anyone in my family gets corona, I'm pretty confident that none of us will die. Like I said previously, 2 of my step daughters has swine flued H1N1 back in 2009 and everyone kept saying they were going to die and so was I since I was the one home taking care of them. Well neither of them died and I never even contracted it. If I can survive that scare and every other scare of these viruses coming out of China every other year, I'm going to be fine with this one too. |

I also work in an industry where I'd probably have the same time on my hands right now, I know my former co-workers have all been working from home and even at that, don't have to do all too much as the situation does slow down the work. And to answer the original question, no, I don't work in a field that is related to this, but I've watched enough stories and researched enough online to see what is going on in other places of the world, how the successful ones are handling it and how the ones failing have handled it. I've seen the stories and messages from people in Italy begging Americans to learn from their mistakes because it didn't have to get this bad there. And I'm able to think for myself and logically understand what can and will happen if too many people do not take it seriously enough. I'm not some liberal die-hard, I'm very much an independent who just doesn't like Trump, but I like and hate things that both sides of the aisle do (I'd have voted for Kasich in 2016). I've seen how the only argument people (and I don't mean people only on here) make against this stuff I'm saying is mainly that "it's just not as bad as people think or are saying" and I see how many experts can clearly explain why it definitely can be that bad and give more than logical reasoning and explanations of why and how it can turn into that. Something that has proven cases being shown by what is happening in places like Italy, Spain, and France compared to places like South Korea. So be angry with me if you want, think I'm crazy if you want, but if worst case scenario happens and we have thousands of people die like right now in Italy, many of whom would have lived if the hospitals weren't overrun due to the rate of spread, I will know 100% that I did not contribute to that happening and I could live with that fact regardless of how large or small the number of deaths are. Can you say the same? Maybe you specifically can, but the people still packing restaurants and bars will not be able to, and if they can, then I feel bad for them for not being able to look in the mirror and be honest with themselves.

Ok. Here it is.
Zonacats, I have responded to you politely, and consistently. You are a problem for intelligent people. The things you post are literally among the stupidest things I have seen posted on the internet. They would pass no scientific test, and fail common logic. #@#@#@#@ing tribes in Africa wouldn't buy into your #@#@#@#@. Stop. You are causing harm with your immense lack of education. Stop. Go read a book or something. Anything. You are causing harm. I'm not sure you can understand that, but I hope. If you want to tangle with me on this forum, publicly, bring it. |

But there are people dying in Italy at this very minute that would not have died if their hospitals weren't as overrun as they are. They do not have the proper medical equipment to satisfy all the needs for them and doctors are having to look at two people and choosing the one that has a better chance at survival and they get the machine while the other person is left to die. How are you okay with taking the chance of that happening in this country? Yes, maybe that person still would have died with the treatment options, but some of them would have lived and just never even given that chance due to the lack of resources. This isn't some third world country we're talking about here, they have equally as good medical care as we do here, but just like here, the amount of people they can treat is still limited to the resources that are on hand. I'm glad that your family is in the range that is likely to survive, I very much am and I'm relieved for you that's the case. But there are millions in this country who are not like that. If it comes to that, how could you seriously look yourself in the mirror and say, "you know what, that beer that I drank at the bar 2 weeks ago was totally worth my neighbors mother dying because they only had 1 respirator left and it went to the person with the better chance of surviving?" And again I must state before you jump down my throat, the "you" here isn't regarding YOU in particular, it's a general statement about the people who aren't taking this seriously and are still doing things like packing restaurants and bars and not following proper social distancing recommendations.

It's just wild that people can disregard what is actually happening in other places with the same virus, it's not wild theories about what could potentially happen, it's actually happening.

The posts you have made have been sophomoric, uneducated, and weak.
I still wish nothing but the best for you, and your aunt, who is elderly and frail. However, when educated people get together and discuss matters, you have not shown you will be at the table. |

People may or may not agree with what I have to say, and there have been plenty of people saying the same things as me, they're just smart enough to not let the people with their heads in the sand on here drive them crazy, they make their couple of posts and walk away (yea, that's on me and I get it).
But how anyone can just blatantly disregard what is going on in other countries and pretend that what I'm saying is Fake News, made up, never have a chance of happening in the US is utterly beyond me. Go watch the interviews with people in Italy right now literally begging Americans to not make the same mistakes they did, how anyone can see that and still just flippantly say "oh well that won't happen here" is just ignorance in it's highest form.

As I've seen you say nothing but call me stupid, haven't seen you give one coherent response as to why what is happening there has no chance of also happening here. And FYI, this has NOTHING to do with my Aunt or anyone else in my family at this point, it's about the elderly and sick citizens of this country as a whole.

Christian Wood tested positive. Expressed flu like symptoms prior to the game against the 76ers and they let him play.

Every worst case scenario study out there is all over the map and most take into account nothing that has been done to prevent the spread; only what would happen if the Government took zero action - like that would happen. ![]() You do realize that not everyone who gets the coronavirus needs to be hospitalized correct? The person in my county who has it is a military retiree dependent (no idea on age) and was sent home to be quarantined in their house by Andrews AFB hospital because the case was mild. There is another Marylander in her 60s who is recovery at home. Only the most serious condition and high risk patients will need to be hospitalized. Almost every medical article online says that most coronavirus cases are people with mild and moderate symptoms who can recover at home. I'm not sure if the hospital bed counts in these articles include military and VA but if they do, we also have a great military who can setup field hospitals practically anywhere in the country to add additional capability if needed. |

You highlighted only the second part of the sentence, the first part clearly says, "I'm glad your family is in the range that is likely to survive" and second part said, "there are millions in this country who are not like that" There is no category that anyone has ever talked about that is "likely to die" there are 3 categories every expert talks about "likely to survive" (under 60), "at risk" (60-80 with pre-existing conditions), and "severely at risk" (over 80 with pre-existing conditions). Nowhere in that sentence did I say anything about millions of people who are going to die, it only said there are millions who are not in the same category as your family. Then you go on to say "every worst case scenario study..." and finish the sentence with "only what would happen if government took no action" Well two problems with that... first of all, what is happening in Italy is not a "scenario study" as it is what is actually happening, and beyond that, they didn't take "no action" they did, but the citizens continued to do things against the recommendations and continued to exacerbate the rate of spread, which is why they are where they are now. Good lord
