I'm curious to the affect this coronavirus will have on sales if everything keeps going the way it is. I mean I'm sure it's already pushed some people from buying since they aren't sure.

I agree with that, especially as the virus might get progressively worse. People will be spending more time at home and more time online rather than going to LCS or doing other things around their area or weekend getaways, other vacations, etc.

I see that point as well, but at the same time with the panic people are going to hesitate not knowing who the person that sold the item is. Just a thought.

That would come from not doing research everything I have read says the virus dies after a few minutes outside of a human host it is not airborne, it is only contracted by direct contact with the carrier.

I’d be more concerned with bed bugs than the coronavirus to be honest. Always wash everything before you wear/sell it even if it’s being sold to you “washed”.

Picked up a very nice and very heavy black leather Lesco motorcycle jacket today for $5. Its in excellent condition, the only problem is that it kind of smells like cigarette smoke. Ive sprayed and wiped it down with a white vinegar/water solution. I think most of the smell is coming from the padded liner which is not removeable. Any tips on removing the smell?

Same. When people donate clothing they dont go through their hamper, they go through their closet. I steam all mine instead of ironing, and the steam kills germs anyway.

I just list in the description, "faint smell of smoke" and keep it away from all your other clothing. Not sure how to get rid of it.

If you have any pine trees or something similar take some green needles put them in a bag with the shirt for a couple of days then hang it outside in a dry spot for a couple of days this usually gets rid of smoke smells.

Actually against Ebay rules to sell unwashed clothing. Like they could ever enforce it but it technically is. I wash most of what I sell unless its a vintage item.

Yeah there is no way they could or would ever enforce this. People know what they are getting when they buy used clothing on eBay. They are going to wash it themselves anyway. There are actually sellers on eBay who tell you they don't launder items specifically in the listing.

Some recent sales...

Izod slacks - $10
Gun dog training book - $5
Old limited edition book - $10
Men's Coach belt - $18
Lems hiking shoes - $50
Geronimo swimming trunks - $23

All were picked for $1 each or less. Nothing sexy in there but solid sales.

I wear leather daily, have since I was 16 and got my first motorcycle. Leather “absorbs” smells. But it also airs out pretty easily. So just stick it on a study coat hanger where it won’t pick up other scents and let it be. If ones in a hurry, go buy meguiers (spelling?) leather cleaning cloths at any auto supply store. Wipe down all the leather (and only the leather) and you should be fine. Plus those wipes are good to have around if you need to clean more leather in the future.

Thanks, I actually have some of those wipes I use for my couch. Did not even think to use them.

One of my friends is a heavy smoker. One night out with him jacket smells like menthols for 3 days. It always goes away. You can fabreeze it but then it smells like that. Which is kinda as annoying. But you’re welcome.

Sold that Spyder5 monitor calibrator for $145. I’m not sure if you guys ever try this tactic- but do you ever ~raise the price of an item? I had dropped this down to $129.99 at one point, but tried the ol’ raise ‘em prices up before bed on a few things and and sold it for $144.99. I ~almost had accepted a $100 offer a couple days ago too.

I also sold the last GBA Metroid game for $24 and the Oppo remote control for $21. Also- I “thrift” cards from my lcs quarter and dime bin and their prizm and RC lots on eBay (saves me shipping). Ive picked up ~300 cards from them the pst few weeks for about $200 total. I’ve sold 11 of those cards on eBay this past week for $70+ total so that feels like thrifting to me lol

I raise prices on item with watcherd often. Has better success rate for me than sending offers or lowering the price

Not exactly. Let's say I just finished a motorcycle that 5K would net me a tidy profit on. It blue books for 6K. I list it for 6500 or 7K so that the buyer can beat me down and I meet them somewhere around 5500-6K. They think they're getting a great deal (it's not a bad deal mind you) and I make more than I would if I just listed it for what I actually wanted.
