Exclamation Craig Roehrig: Verona, WI; Ebay: quality*cards, is a CARD DOCTOR (all PSA graded)

Longtime card dealer Craig Roehrig of Verona, Wisconsin has had an established relationship with PSA for many years and his company, Quality Cards, is a PSA dealer. Roehrig has had a reputation for dealing in high-end cards for several decades and is known for being the submitter to PSA for the grading of what became the 3rd PSA 10 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card in 1999.

Roehrig's Ebay store user ID is quality*cards.
Roehrig buys with an unknown Ebay ID, which is masked in the Vintage Card Prices website (VCP) as c***1.

Alteration methods found so far include trimming, crease removal, coloring, stain removal/minimization and corner repair most likely from pressing.

In researching the various PSA numerically numbered submission runs, there is a mixture of cards being sold by quality*cards and Memory Lane Auctions, all purchased by the c***1 masked ID or an unknown ID if purchased from an auction house. He has also purchased raw cards which were discovered using the free CardTarget.Com website. I will post some of those later.

All altered cards found to date have been graded by PSA experts.

In two weeks of research I have uncovered a minimal amount of cards that can be confirmed as altered. There are many higher end cards in his PSA submissions but the lack of first purchase data is the result of many of those being purchased raw or through avenues where the online purchase data is not stored.

Craig is one of the original PSA dealers, if memory serves.

If I can see the fresher white cardboard edge in the scans......can't PSA see it in hand?

Craig Roehrig was outed many years ago on the Collectors Universe forums, but at the time it seemed like conjucture as there was no hard proof. The letter from the "PSA Insider" names Rick Changie, one of Roehrig's long-time confidants and business partners, as a card doctor as well, so this is not entirely surprising. Card doctors, like wild dogs, often travel in packs.

It has been rumored for many years that Roehrig altered cards and, like TripleSSS, performed some of the most advanced work. It is also known that he has had a close relationship with some of PSA's graders. His PSA 10 1952 Topps Mantle, for instance, was initially in a PSA 9 holder and may have had some "work" done to it.

Great work, corndog. Yet another PSA recommended card doctor has been caught.

Ric sold Craig's cards but I never thought he was a card doctor himself, more a "bumper" due to his influence with Mike Baker. Perhaps that's wishful thinking driven by the fact that I liked Ric.

The corners have been pressed and either reshaped or recut. This is most evident on the LR corner that went from being somewhat blunted to sharp. This technique was mentioned in a 1996 article from VCBC that I posted a link to.

Is that considered the holy grail of alterations?

It’s really disgusting and disgraceful what they do to not just the hobby, but to our history and americana.

Good work and thank you for doing this corndog

I think you're correct. I may be off by a little but I want to say that Craig was one of the very first "PSA Authorized" dealers formally announced around 1993 or 1994. I think there were about a dozen of them named as such.

The sad thing about this hobby is that in the decades this has been going on, I don't think one dealer has exposed a card doctor, even though all the dealers know who the doctors are. Just live and let live, and profit from the price umbrella.

Nice work corndog!

Looks like I'll be adding to my collection of attorney general and DOJ complaints on Monday, when I reach out to Wisconsin.

He's been on my "do not buy from" list since I started with graded cards.

I've noticed that on his ebay auctions you can't make the pictures larger either.

If the pics don't grow, I must say no!
