I hope that's not true because what I read was that it would be Mookie for a combo of OF (Naylor or Margot) and P (Quantrill or Luchessi). If that's the trade then it's a big L and I will be furious.

Merloni reported it earlier today.

Trade sounds close. This is what the Sox do when a guy is about to go.

Man, that does seem weak for(even one year of) Mookie Betts.
Those guys are serviceable but couldn't they grab some upside and get Morejon/Franchy/Baez/weathers maybe?

Mookie's stuff is about to plummet in the immediate short term if he's traded to the Padres. Medium term I think it will be a plus for better MVP chance. But if he does go to the Padres, I'm ready to scoop up all those Mookies Red Sox fans will be dumping

Dodgers are in play here too. They have always made the most sense to me.

I would say Dodgers number one, plus the Red Sox don't need Myers the first baseman now that they brought back Moreland to play 1b today.

Yep, when a team leaves the Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox and Dodgers thier interest drops.

That’s weird, every other thread in the BST section is someone looking to buy guys on the Padres, Blue Jays, Braves, Nationals, Rays, and a future Mariner

But just think, they would actually be popular if they were on the Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, etc

Ignore the alternative statements that those lineups are too stacked so it’s impossible to be noticed even when you are a top 20 player...

On MLB Network Rosenthal says Padres are in, Dodgers are in, Padres are pushing the hardest but the Dodgers can do it the cleanest.

"If I had to guess I believe he is going to be traded. I wouldn't have said that a week ago."

@Buster_ESPN
You'd assume that Cody Bellinger would be the Dodgers' center fielder if LA deals for Mookie Betts to play right field -- and that duo would be insanely good defensively. Both top 5 in DRS last year. fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?p…

I'd just assume he's using the dumb writer logic of he was the MVP and won the gold glove at his position so how could anyone possibly think of moving his position. Dodgers are too analytical of an organization I think not to put Cody back at a corner position if they get Mookie. Cody's been a corner outfielder throughout most of his career too. But hey I've been wrong before

And if he does get moved to CF, his WAR projection is at least 1.5 over anyone else in the NL with him 6.6 currently and Cody being tops in the NL at 5.7

For those following the saga... this has almost no new news... although does mention Price as part of the package being considered by the Dodgers: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/...e-betts-2.html

Price being part of the package has been a known Red Sox demand since November.

What do you think about interest if Mookie is traded to the Dodgers? Does it increase or decrease?

Agreed. This is a typical smear job by the Sox to a player on his way out of town. It's laughable they offered him the same amount of money/AAV as Machado and less overall money than Harper.

Dodgers are our dumpster.

Whenever we need to dump players/salary they're there to help us out.

Thumbs up to the LA Dodgers!!!

Increase because Red Sox fans won’t dump him with an MVP and World Series under his belt. Dodgers fans will buy

I just think the Red Sox weren't interested in paying him $35M in his age 38 and 39 seasons. I think 10 year 330M was more of an acceptable offer and in line with what Mookie is worth, but he has made it clear he wants to test FA anyways, so I wouldn't expect him to accept any reasonable offer from the Red Sox. Also, him asking for pretty much the same contract as Mike Trout received is ludicrous.

That, but I also think them signing Eovaldi to 17 million a year and Sale to 30 million a year contracts did them in. Signing injured arm Sale might have cost them Mookie the most. If they didn't sign Sale that`s the 30 million under the lux tax they needed. Signing Sale did them in.

That's called negotiating. Boston went low; Mookie went high. The final contract will be in the middle.

Also, the Sox are one of the richest franchises in baseball. Nobody wants to hear them cry poverty after the money they gave Price, Sale and Eovaldi.

It's like clockwork every time the Red Sox are about to get rid of someone.
