Default ***Official 2020 Angels Baseball Thread***

Halos front office made some moves this offseason. The biggest was the pickup of Anthony Rendon. Two pitchers were added (Dylan Bundy and Julio Teheran) and the coaching staff was revamped highlighted by Joe Maddon.

Here's what the potential lineup looks like.

1) Fletcher/LaStela 2B
2) Trout CF
3) Rendon 3B
4) Ohtani DH
5) Upton LF
6) Pujols 1B
7) Simmons SS
8) Goodwin (then Adell when promoted) RF
9) Stassi

Starting Rotation

1) Teheran
2) Bundy
3) Heany
4) Canning
5) Sandoval/Barria/Suarez
6) Ohtani on Sunday. Per several reports, he will only pitch once a week.

I will try to update the thread after every game (win or lose) and will also update with any relevant Halo news.

The offense is there, the pitching is not. The season will come down to how good or bad the starting rotation performs.

Feel free to talk Angels baseball here

With Rendon protecting Trout, I can’t wait to see his numbers at the end of the season! MVP #4?

Lineup looks nasty, though I think it would go Trout/Ohtani/Rendon to bat R/L/R.

Looks like La Stella might be trade bait for a starter.

Thiass and Rengifo are infield backups, could use a better catcher as well.

The key for Trout will be health. Every year he has an injury that knocks him out for a week or two. A full season with some off days would be nice.

I agree, the lineup is gonna be nasty. I really don't see the Angels getting any more pitching, even though I think they should. Seems like Eppler is content with the rotation, based on his past comments after picking up Teheran. He said, "Teheran brings stability to rotation."

I think maybe La Stella could be trade bait for a catcher?

This lineup reminds me of the old Texas Rangers teams. All hitting and absolutely zero pitching.

I see that.

The biggest question will also be Griffin Canning. He has tremendous numbers but he got a lot of no decisions and losses based on the bullpen blowing leads.

I think you see significant gains from the young arms (Canning, Sandoval, Barria and Suarez) under Callaway. There is not one pitcher on the trade market that I would mortgage our future for at this point. Let the season play out and see where we're at at the deadline.

Another thing to consider, despite not picking up a marquee arm we did add 2 solid innings eaters in Teheran and Bundy. That alone is a big upgrade from where we were a year ago. If they can log 175 innings each, it will take a lot of strain off of our bullpen.

Is it too late to ask Santa to bring the Angels some better pitching?

I think Heaney will have his best season this year, Bundy sucks a little less and they will be in playoff contention till the end. Rendon is a winning ball player and will really help not only with his offensive and defensive production but bringing a more competitive attitude to the roster as a whole.

These are the players I am excited to see how they perform. I think Barria, Sandoval and Suarez will have to compete for the #5 position.

I don't love the pitching but I also don't love any of the available or rumored to be available options. I hate Price, am baffled by the interest in Boyd and have no interest in any further Matt Harvey type reclamation projects. I say we run with what we got with the staff. As far as catcher though, that is a problem that needs addressing no ifs ands or buts, go get Contreras, do it immediately.

Pitching staff needs an upgrade bigtime. Looking forward to seeing Rendon and better overall management by Maddon. I was not a huge fan of Ausmus at all, team seemed to lack motivation. Not happy to see Kole leaving either!

I believe he's only available via trade...trade who? Brandon Marsh and Rengifo?

This. Without additional moves, I'd say this will be a challenging but realistic goal.

Love their lineup. Again I think people underrate Upton.

If they get three starters with 150 plus innings and sub 4.50 era’s they will be competitive.

This is correct and I would have preferred a free agent vs a trade but that ship has sailed. Chicago is trying hard to shed salary so I'm not sure if they'd need a huge return or just welcome the salary relief. The idea of trading Marsh isn't pleasant but neither is the idea of opening the season with the catchers currently on the roster.

I'm not as sour on Upton as most others are either. His contract is large but not exorbitant. If he is healthy and plays anywhere near his career averages, no complaints at all.

Contreras makes 4.5 mil this year it looks like? That’s pretty affordable. I seriously doubt they’d trade him for Brandon Marsh.
