Hello!
I am looking into getting a scanner for Christmas. I'd like to be able to use this strictly for scanning my cards whenever I want to sell them or post images of them. Just wanted to get some feedback from the community on what scanners are being used by this community and what the best options are out there. Thanks! |

I use an EPSON Expression 11,000XL. It's pricey, but it has a large bed. I love it as I sometimes scan larger art pieces, and many cards fit in it at once for multiple scanning at the same time.
EPSON generally offers discounts around the holidays, which is when I got mine several years ago. I think I got mine 40% off around Black Friday, but can't remember for sure. I know the discount was substantial though. Hope that helps. |

I know there are other posts about this but they all seem to be dated. I would have to assume that new scanners have come out and the community would like to be informed on the new technology and new scanning products.
Looks like Epson Perfect V600 might be the top one? Could anyone inform if this works well with MacBooks? I would assume it is Mac compatible - but just wondering how easy it is to use with a MacBook? |

If you are scanning cards in One Touch cases or graded slabs that need the scanner to accommodate depth, just make sure you get a scanner with a CCD element in it. Mine is an Epson v370.

Canon 9000F owner here.
Pros: High-quality scans of cards in any case or slab Cons: Bad software that's really annoying to use. I could only recommend it if you are getting a good deal on it. I got a used one on eBay for $50 shipped and it was worth it at that price. |

I posted a link recently to an eBay seller selling Epson V370 factory refurbs for $40. I snagged one and it’s beautiful.

Just an unsolicited tip from a network engineer: You can always use other software to scan for you if the scanner has a normal TWAIN scanner driver. Have you tried scanning directly out of Photoshop (assuming you use it)?

Canon also hasn’t really paid much attention to updating their software in awhile. It’s not as intuitive as Epsons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Crazy opinion but is a scanner really that much of a genuine value add , besides making your listing “more professional “(which I will concede is itself a value add)
I list mostly low end and I’ve always used my phone. I’ve always been to lazy investigate scanning because it seems impossible for any scan to actually show the nuances you can see when you hold a card in your hand at different light angles. I’ve never seen a a raw (or graded) listing by any seller that I felt any confidence in beyond the sellers description. Convince me to buy a scanner. |

When I scanned one of my cards recently in a one touch, under 2600 dpi, I can zoom in to the point where it’s similar to viewing under 30-60x magnification and now I don’t need to use my loupe. EDIT: terrible pic, see my post below Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The only one I recommend is the Epson v600.

whoa I just now saw how terrible the resolution was that Tapatalk posted. its much clearer than that when I viewed it on my phone earlier. here is a better example of the clarity of a scan at high resolution and when zoomed in to inspect a corner.

Why buy a scanner? If I'm spending any kind of real money on a card I won't even look at listings that don't have scans. In this day and age of "buy the card," I want to see the card in detail (and the back). I know a lot of people that are the same way. You'll never know how many sales you didn't make because of bad cell pics.
I had an Epson Perfection V550 and loved it. One day, it just stopped communicating with my computer. I spent a few weeks doing everything you can imagine (yes, even whatever you're going to recommend) and nothing. Ended up buying an older model, Epson 4490, which I also love. I love it for everything with one exception, refractors. If someone has a great CCD scanner that is able to do great refractor scans, please share. Otherwise, here's an example. ![]() Arthur |

I have a Canon 9000F mk II. I use irfanview (free software) to scan. It's a CCD so it can scan cards in graded holders and one touch mags easily. Cost me a lot a few years ago but I don't regret buying it.
I hear a lot of good about Epsons but I have no first hand experience with them.

Here are some scans from the Epson V600. The V600 does not produce the jail bar (light streak) effect the V370 does. Some don't mind it, but prefer the V600.
