Default **UPDATE...Devastating*** ..just secured a 2001 Topps Employee complete sealed set

I just purchased a still sealed 2001 Topps Employee only set of baseball cards...

I'm shaking....I am sooooo excited...as an Ichiro collector...to be able to have one of the "Topps Employee" rookies...I never thought I'd see the day...should arrive sometime next week.

UPDATE: It came today....ALL bricked and the Ichiro...was NOT Embossed...I'm soooooooo disappointed.

Congrats! Nothing beats finding and buying that elusive card you've been wanting.

Heads up (maybe someone with more knowledge about it can chime in): You might want to stick it in the freezer for a bit, as they tend to brick together due to the UV coating.

Congrats!
I bought a PSA 8 of the Ichiro Employee set card on ebay about a year or two ago, thinking that's enough of a good grade for a card like this with bunch of surface issues.

Maybe you are intending to keep the set sealed, but good luck if you are opening it (i.e. the condition issues).

Congrats, that's a GREAT addition. As an Ichiro collector you'll appreciate this card I pulled a couple months ago:

That is the coolest variation on the 2001 set, IMHO. Congratulations on finding a full set so far on.

Congrats! Just FYI, the whole freezer thing won't work. If they've truly bricked, it's a molecular bond and not something that reversing the temperature extreme will correct.

Another day, another new baseball card to learn about on here. Thanks OP. I think some day I will pick up a single from this set just for an example card of it to own.

There's a stamp that's tough to see in some pictures. It's pretty clear in this one.

Yep, see it now. Thanks for posting that! Interesting how some of this stuff comes back around. Love it. I just started picking up 2001 Topps Golds for my PC and have been reintroduced to this set all over again. Its heaven! One of the first sets I put together with my 3 brothers and still have the set we put together. Good times!

+1

If it's stamped like that and there's undentations in the surface where air can get in that can sometimes be the saving grace for a lot of these glossy cards. Putting out positive vibes.

I bought one of these sealed on eBay about 10 years ago, and I ended up cracking it late last summer. Bricked, snowy, and the critical cards in the set had been replaced with base versions. Seal was intact, so someone was sneaky.... hope your result is better than mine.

Ugh...............that's not good.....gosh I hope that's not the case with mine...I looked at the pics again and the whole box is sealed but you can tell that it's old but still has the Topps little logo printed all over the plastic.

What other critical cards are there in this set other than the Ichiro?

Okay. This is contrary to what you have heard here but is what happened to me with some early 90s Stadium Club with the coating. These too had a propensity to stick together.

I left my boxes in my garage where in the summertime it got fairly warm outside. This warmed I suppose the coating enough that the cards did not stick whatsoever. They spread apart like butter.

So I am and have been firmly in the camp against freezing them. As well, I had another box I kept inside my house from a 92 set. Never saw hot or cold. I sold it hoping there would be no issues. Gentleman who bought it was very pleased when he broke them and no issues.

So if stored well (perhaps you can find out) shouldn't be an issue. If you want to break open and find they are bricked, heat treatment.
