Default Local Wal-Mart Closing Trading Cards Out

So I've been hitting local Targets for Chrome Update, one had em, the other didn't so figured I'd just check into Wal-Mart as I stay clear of Wal-Mart most of the time. I walk into the card section and a Wal-Mart employee is pulling every card off the shelf, baseball, football, basketball, Pokemon, etc. He said that they were no longer carrying trading cards and were returning them to the vendor. I live in Melbourne, FL so wondered if anyone else as seen this at other Wal Marts. Seems odd, he said there were to many problems, probably retail theft, pack searchers, and people returning resealed items with crap in em.

Interesting. I have noticed that the new Walmarts around me that have the shorter checkout stations tend to carry little to no cards, for what it is worth.

The 4 Walmart’s closest to my house stopped selling cards last year, and 2 of them had really nice card sections.

Why? That's the whole reason I go to Walmart. They are going to lose a lot of traffic from this

Mine pulled them this year. No longer sell them. And they sold great. They were always pretty bare bones because people cleaned them out

When I lived in a suburb immediately adjacent to the North side of Milwaukee, the WM there never carried cards. Definitely a theft thing.

Same area where I witnessed a guy run out of Home Depot with a leafblower. The HD door guy just turned to me and said "He runs good for a fat boy!"

Very large Walmart near me with a rough customer base was completely cleared out this past week. They were a very well stocked store

I suspect it’s more to do with returns as I’ve seen several boxes there with cellophane wrap that was not factory.

Considering there’s basically no jobs in LA paying less than $15 an hour and the average salary is over $60k s year, you have to be a real loser to spend time buying and resealing card boxes to return.

What I’m about to say was accurate 6 years ago but things may have changed since I’ve been out....
If an individual store wants to have a vendor product removed then it needs to go through Market Mgr and Regional Office approval. It does happen and not only with Beckett. The majority of the time the decision is made due to poor vendor presence at that particular location and not the other reasons mentioned above.

I mean one of the biggest retail stores to stop carrying cards will be huge. That leaves Target. The only hobby shop in my entire county closed down years ago, he retired, but pretty much said it was hard to keep up with online prices and all the "distributors." Wal Mart may opt to just sell them via the online store. Decrease risk of theft and may decrease people resealing the boxes and returning them. They weren't even marking them down, just returning them to the vendor...

You cant be serious. All of the cards Walmart has sold since they first starting selling cards wouldnt equal 1 millionth of 1 percent of their sales.

The last 3 times I went to Walmart to get Holiday boxes, there were cards from open packs strewn about. The open packs were usually from the pokemon style card games. In the last week, the local Targets put those nice "you're being recorded" signs in the card aisle.

So...based only on my local big box store observations, I could see them pulling those high cost, low profit, easy five finger discount items out of stores, and make them online only.

I have been in 2 in east Texas that no longer has them. Smaller stores, but might be a trend and why Walmart is doing so much online offerings.

Yup happen to me as well a few months ago here is las vegas.
the 2 wal marts around my house have been carrying cards for nearly 20 years same spot and there was always a decent selection.
i would go once a week just to see if anything good restocked and buy some.
i went in about 3 months ago and the spot where the cards was now was all filled with batteries.
i searched the whole store found nothing, asked multiple employees they said they stopped carrying them.
i was just in there a few days ago thinking they got them back and nope i asked again and they said they no longer sell any cards at all.
happen at both of my wal marts around me in the past 3 months.
now my only option is target and there is only 1 close to me and guess what.... there is never nothing good in stock cause now everyone only has 1 place to go to with in our area so everyone is just hitting target now.
it sucks big time.

Wow, so this may be why my local walmart went from having a fully stocked, organized card section two weeks ago to what looked like a ransacked shelf of garbage with empty display boxes this week.

I have good luck out at the Target on Nellis/Sahara if you're ever out that way. There's also a Walmart on Nellis that had cards as recently as last year.

The 2 Walmart’s that are closest to me have stopped carrying all sports cards for about 2 years now.

Which area?
Im in NW Vegas and it's the same over here. Though the Target in my area isnt being overrun by anxious customers, it's just never stocked on time. Maybe the vendor shows up 3 weeks after release. I still havent seen Topps Update over here, let alone Chrome.
