He plays incredibly soft around the rim unless it's a fast break situation. Makes no sense how averse he is to contact though the free throws obviously play a part. I still don't think this team can win a title as currently constructed with him on the roster. They're really gonna miss Jimmy in the playoffs. Harris is solid but he's not a go-to bucket getter like Jimmy and they don't really have anyone left on the roster like that. And on a card note, it still blows my #@#@#@#@ing mind how much his stuff goes for. There's been zero growth in his game and people still talk about potential with him and his prices. I can't think of anyone else who sustained their prices like him while never improving. It's nuts. He's basically Lamar Odom w/o a jumper. |

Someone has got to explain to me why his Silvers are still selling so high. There's two auctions over $1,000 right now.
We're gonna look back at his stuff like Steve Francis cards one day. |

His game against Boston was like two weeks ago. The potential for greatness is there. He excels at everything except shooting and mental fortitude, and the thought is that these two things can be repaired over time. Forget the cards... watching him play so passively stings as a 76ers fan. Simmons is starting to seem like a guy who is amazing at practice and shrinks in games. He shoots all the damn time in summer pickup and preseason, and now it’s like he can’t get rid of the ball fast enough. I think he’ll sort it out, but it’s deflating as a fan.

He will never be the go-to guy who takes over games the way every other superstar in this league does. He’s the third option I would want to have the ball in his hands. He can shoot a three, can’t make a jump shot, and can’t make a free throw.

I fully expect the Sixers to win a title with him if Embiid stays healthy. But he will not be the reason the team won the title.

Ben season stats are 15/7/7 on a VERY good team.
He doesn't need to score 25+ per game. He's only 23 and IMO has a ton of upside.

Seriously tho, Simmons was a generational talent. Having his passing/defensive skills is extremely rare for someone who's 6'10. I've been a big defender of Simmons since he came into the league. I've always thought he'd be able to add a jumpshot but it's not looking like it's possible. Without a jumpshot his potential is severely capped. He'll never be an all-time great unless he figures out what the hell is wrong with his shot. I always used to think that anyone can learn to shoot but it sure doesn't seem that way. Look at Markelle, praised for his "new shot" every single year and every single year it sucks. His jumper sucks as much as it ever did this year. I guess no amount of coaching can truly make a bad shooter a good one

15/6/7 isn’t going to cut it long term. Hope he starts to score more.

A lot of u in here think that it’s just a lack of a jump shot. U can improve ur jumper over the years. I don’t think u can change the mentality of someone that is scared in crunch time and doesn’t want the ball. Watch him in fourth quarter of a close game versus the rest of game. He at least tries and take it to the basket in first quarter. Fourth he dribbles it up the court and hands it off to first person he sees and hides under the basket. There’s no hope for someone without that alpha personality. He will just be a third option at best.

The hot takes in this thread are hilarious. Every year people hate on him and say he’s trash then he practically averages a triple double on a team with 4 all stars. If he was on a trash team like Kat is he’d average numbers that’s make everyone in here go “dark horse mvp?” He might just screw around and get a championship. Leads the league in steals btw.

The guys on NBA XM Radio were discussing over the summer how beneficial it would be for him to be playing in the summer league just to get comfortable taking 3's and jumpers. They said his ego wouldn't allow that though and he was destined to be a good but not great player.

bottom line is this is his 4th year in the league and he still is unable/unwilling to learn to shoot. That's an indictment on his mental fortitude and work ethic more than anything. These might have been "hot takes" in the first year...but at this point it's just truth until proven otherwise.
LeBron, Magic, Oscar, Westbrook...how many of those guys shied away from shots in the 4th quarter? You think they slinked back beyond the 3-pt line and hoped their teammates wouldn't pass them the ball?

The sixers lead the league in 4th quarter point differential this year. Seems like they are doing just fine in the clutch. These are indeed hot takes and if anyone was actually watching you'd notice his defense has taken yet another leap. He does need to be more aggressive and he's had one bad game, yeah. Getting a jumper was never important unless you're trying to put him in a goat discussion which no one is trying to do.

So we got a Ron artest/lamar Odom hybrid. Does that spell superstar or just decent all star? People wanted him to be a magic/Lebron hybrid.

Ok so I've been dissecting his shot for a bit.
He tends to have awkward balance and fades when he doesn't need to. He also cups the ball in his left hand at some strange 8 and 2 position. Also; Kardasian curse. That's all I've got. Carry on.... |
