True but you only need to do it a few times to scare people

Locking up the categories like razors does impact sales and data shows that but the store owns this merchandise so in many areas they have to make the decision to lock up. This is a very tough decision for most stores, having to balance theft vs convenience, and is usually heavily debated between the Management and Asset Protection teams.
Though it doesn't add to shrink, if people buy Target packs only to find out they are searched or their favorite brand packs are damaged, they won't buy packs at Target- and Target won't get the sales for the other stuff that people buy when they buy packs at Target.

Probably a pack searcher trying to scare off the competition.

True but the average criminal will not be made aware. Doubt the major news outlets will give it enough coverage.

It may be commonly used but it's terrible English. 'Bout time American was recognised as its own language!

Don't forget the mention of the sign also possibly being trimmed via scissors, I would have just sent it to PSA before displaying.

Based on those articles (same article?) we found, I don't think this is very common...

The guy I quoted says it's 'very' commonly used in retail. He almost certainly knows better than I do. I don't want to think about it too much - if I heard it said aloud, I think I'd throttle the person saying it!

I’ve worked in retail for 13 years and it is indeed common terminology.

Easy, this is clearly a homemade printed sign that someone decided to bring to Target and place on there

Not commonly used? Go to any police dept around the country or go to any retail store and steal or harass the employees or customers. Guarantee you will hear it. Or watch Live PD and you will hear it on any episode

What if...this was placed by a local packsearcher? Eliminates his competition...

This is correct. It’s been stated a couple of times here that the term is commonly used in retail. The fact is that the term is used in retail because it is the terminology used by the police departments. When I ran stores and had to give the approval on trespassing each shoplifter, no matter the geographical location, the officer would ask “Do you want us to trespass him/her”? This is the only way I ever recall this question being asked. After hearing the phrase 10-30 times per week for years it doesn’t sound odd to me at all but I see how it could sound if your not used to it.

I ain't buying that it's legit. I bet it's some unscrupulous pack searcher who created his own sign, taped it on a shelf, places the boxes/packs he wants to search above the sign so people (other pack searchers/kids//the competition) won't touch them. When he gets back from wherever he went, vape shop, taco bell, CBD dispensary, he then takes down the sign stuffs it in his hoodie and proceeds to search packs and boxes. Genius tactic really.

A - Fake
B - I’m super excited for the cops to be called for someone that is “searching”... they will laugh and laugh...

Opening is a different thing all together

At least use spell check people

Been to couple Targets this week and havent seen any signs.

Searching wont be Theft. I think a vendor maybe did this with a manager's approval.
