lol, yeah, it's the total opposite for me. I'm used to UPS deliveries, and they always bring my packages to a little convenience store drop off if I'm not home. First time using FedEx and I figured what's the worst that could happen.

I thought CGC stopped that practice with FedEx. Don't know about UPS but every time I've tried to redirect packages to be held it gives me the shipper has not allowed that option (recently). I remember a while back there was a topic on this over at the CGC boards.

I'm trying to collect all the Faithless covers and didn't realize there was a Diamond Retailer Incentive cover from the retailer summit until there was only 1 copy left on eBay. It was listed as VF/NM, but I picked it up anyway since I couldn't know when another might be listed and I wanted to get it signed by Azzarello. Arrived today and the damn thing is a 9.8 if I ever saw one! That's always a nice surprise.

Well that's disappointing. George Perez had to cancel his planned final con appearance at Terrificon this year. I was really looking forward to that. And with Marv Wolfman canceling as well due to his injury I've gotta say I'm glad I hadn't yet pulled the trigger on a 9.6 DC Presents 26 I was going to have them both sign.

Noticed that CBSI is now doing their own video of their Hot 10 Comics list. I guess I can read it and then watch/listen to it while driving to the LCS

Yeah, they kicked Tom and Russ to the curb...their Top 10 is now sponsored by Key Collector App. CBSI’s Mr. Bolo is great, but that other co-host he does the show with doesn’t know #@#@#@#@ about comics. 😂

Anyone hear about the house full of comics that the guy from Bargain Hunters Thrift store bought for $16k. Unbelievable. He posted an excel spreadsheet with a list of books and grades on his FB page. I guess he’s going to cons now...blah. I’m just jelly.

There’s lots of vids on you tube that he did as he cleared out the house. He’s pretty rough with the books. Kinda hard to watch. I have a feeling that he didn’t have any of the books pressed and cleaned though. May be some bumps in there.

Yes, I contacted him when he bought it, acted like he didn't need any help. He was probably inundated with people trying to help him though and probably thought it best to handle everything himself. My guess is he left a LOT of money on the table trying to quickly unload a lot of it. Anyone who's been doing this for a while knows that patience is the key.

A lot of these guys have countless money tied up product that hasn’t sold and to keep there business a float they need quick flips.Sometimes they just don’t have the resources or time to go threw such a huge collection so they let someone make do that and they still make money as well

Kind of an odd, specific question, but has anyone ever met Keith Giffen at a signing? I was curious if he might do a quick little remark sketch on one of my Omega Men books to cover up a slight bit of color rub or does he pretty much strictly do autographs only. Some signers seem to be more flexible with requests than others and this will be my first time meeting him.

Let's see if this works ... #2 is Giffen's price list last time i met him. He would probably help you out, but it might cost a few bucks.

Someone finally got a con going in my home town. I think this will be the second year. Guests include the founding members of Big Brother and The Holding Co....lol. I kinda want to go just so I can ask a bunch of questions about Janis Joplin.

I met Keith Giffen in the pre-CGC days and before the hobby was riddled by opportunistic resellers whose greed caused an attitude of disdain towards many sketch and signature seekers.

I can't say enough good things about Keith Giffen. It was his 1st appearance in my area that I knew of, and I took a stack of my original LSH run, Omega Men, Flash w/ Dr. Fate, Ambush Bug and his old Marvel/DC work.

His signature at the time (and probably isn't to this day) worth anything, per se, and the comics I brought were single issues (not multiple copies of the same issue) as well as not in the best condition, so he knew I was a fan. He didn't charge a signing fee, as nobody at the time did.

I asked in advance if he could sign my books and if there was any limit, and fortunately there was no line for his signature. He made the most gracious comment to me stating "You took the time to buy them and read my work, so it's the least I can do to sign them for you. Thank you for supporting my work"

It's experiences like this that creates great memories.

P. Craig Russell did the same for me, but I'm sure it helped that I only had one of each book in the large stack of graphic novels and there were clear signs of reading wear on them.

The great Brian Bolland is the same way. He'll sign everything you have and tell you anything about any of the books you want to know.

I love when you meet artists like that. My favorite being Yanick Paquette who took a lot of time chatting to the the people that stopped at his table, and appreciated the patience of everyone waiting to meet him. After we talked and I asked him to sign a Swamp Thing TPB, he not only signed it but did a full watercolor illustration on the inside cover for free! That really turned my entire day around as immediately before I met Yanick, I had asked Frank Brunner for an autograph but he refused to sign my book because despite his art being IN the book, he wouldn't sign the cover because the cover wasn't his art. That was the first and last time I will ever waste my time with Frank Brunner. While I was waiting in line for him, the only thing he seemed willing to talk about with people was how much he despises Stan Lee. (Who was the guest of honor at that particular con, so I have a feeling that might have been what put him in the mood he was in.) He definitely killed the vibe of the convention for me, so I was very grateful for Yanick's enthusiasm for his fans and comics.

Over the years I have had a few writers say the same thing. I wish there were more like him.

So I’m up here in NorCal and was evacuated due to the kincade fire. House has slight smell of smoke. Garage is pretty strong though. I took all of my high dollar graded books with me but have a bunch of raw books in the garage. Just wondering if how these books might be affected. Will the smell disparate or are the raw books ruined? Most of the minor keys were bagged so I’m hoping they’re fine , but I have a lot of mid grade bronze keys that weren’t in bags.

Thanks

That sucks.. kind of hard to remove the smell of smoke, especially black smoke. One of the buildings I worked at caught on fire a few years back and the smell lingered for weeks in just the air alone.. they put out those canisters of air neutralizer/absorber and it worked within a week or two time.. might be worth a try. They're big buckets/industrial size.. could probably find them at Home Depot or Amazon.

It comes down to how much time you want to put it
In. Open the books and air them out. Place bounce sheets in the books will help. A fan slowly over them and
Open and flip pages every few hours will help
Once complete place them in an old board and bag with a bounce sheet or two in between the pages.
Check in them by smelling and rotates new sheets
In on separate pages and put them back in. This should work but it will take weeks to get rid of smells. When complete throw away all the old bags and boards or burn them.
