I thought he really meant you would be "bitter" at first, rightfully so.

He is basically telling the seller to sell it to the next bidder since he can't pay for it.

frustrating but cost(frustration) of doing business. Good news is you have a very liquid card that you can immediately relist.

This dude bought a Sapphire Brandon Lowe auto from me and said it was scratched up. He sent pics and it looked like it might be, even though it went straight from pack to penny to top-loader.
I told him I would refund for a return, he said it was a hassle and would be cool for a partial refund.
I ended up giving him a partial refund out of fear of negative feedback.
Lesson learned the hard way.

I know it sucks sometimes to have to wait for the returns to relist, but NEVER give partial refunds. Oldest scam in the book. I tell any buyer that asks for a partial refund... Just send me the card back and I will issue a full refund. Usually they end up going away

One guy told me after he paid that my prices are too high and I should send him some free cards as compensation. I laughed.

Does sound shady and strange, but I sold some sapphire cards to him right after release and had no problems. I had my Alonso Auto listed as $2k BIN/OBO and after a few counter offers he sends an offer about $100 higher than the cheapest BIN listed so I jumped on it and accepted. A little more than a day went by with no payment so I was worried he wasn't going to pay, but he messaged me to apologize for the delay and paid up before 48 hours passed. I gave him a great deal on a Sapphire Alonso base + Paddack base right after as well to thank him for buying the first auto. He paid up for everything and part of me was expecting some shenanigans like claiming they weren't "as described" or "not MINT" once he got them but he got them and left me positive feedback.
I'm not excusing his not paying after winning but just wanted to chime in that I had a couple transactions with him on eBay without problems. (Yes I noticed his English was a bit off in our messages but I'm not one to judge as I have immigrant parents with broken English.)

+1

I've had two buyers over the years give me that line.

Both ended up keeping the card.

Always call their bluff.

Mr Dallas is correct. Asking for a partial refund instead of returning is somewhat of an extortion play per ebay. They will side with you and hammer his tits.
