I’d say he has the most upside. Considering the circumstances surrounding his draft and all the negativity it created, the expectations were/are quite low. If the G-men are 0.500 at the end of the season it’s a monumental success. If they can somehow make the playoffs (playoffs?!?) it will be the second coming. Eli got benched way before anybody thought he would (should is a different issue) and now this guy wins 2 games and actually looks pretty good doing it. He has things the Giants haven’t had at QB in a long time: mobility, arm strength, some pocket presence, size, etc.
Also, the Giants have shown their willingness to stick with a QB forever so this guy barring injury may well be the face of that franchise for a very long time But hey, one guy’s opinions. Last edited by armoursave; 10-03-2019 at 08:50 PM. |

No he’s no Mahomes for sure. He’s an average NFL QB prospect....and that is such a cosmic upgrade for the Giants it cannot be overstated.
I’d much rather own Jones than say Murray. And the Giants kind of have the last laugh don’t they? I mean they could have taken Haskins. |

He should be getting some help. Tate will be back, and Barkley coming back next week is looking realistic. Giants have a chance to sneak in the playoffs.

vs Vikings @ Patriots vs Cardinals @ Lions vs Cowboys @ Jets @ Bears vs Packers @ Eagles vs Dolphins @ Redskins vs Eagles I'd say we have 4 games we should win (AZ, NYJ, MIA, WAS) but outside of that those Vikings/Patriots/Bears defenses are legit, Eagles/Cowboys are tough all around. Lions are a crapshoot but that defense is stout too. I guess we finish 7-9

Yeah, their defense will be a weak link.
I'm curious to see how Jones looks against Minnesota. They obviously have talent on defense, but that is a team that could be hitting a tailspin really fast. |

Why does Jones get a complete pass for what should have been a 3-INT game?

Not at all. Obviously I am a Giants fan, but no bias here. I thought Jones was a horrible pick when it happened and I am eating crow.
As for the bad. Jones is a rookie who is making rookie mistakes - so the INTs and fumbles (which he seems prone to especially given the preseason) are there. But the good - some things to consider. -If you watch the games, his accuracy and arm are pretty solid. He has great ball placement, especially when he isn't under duress. His receivers don't get the separation they need for the throws to connect - but he seemingly has all the tools except for the bad decisions common with almost all rookies. -He doesn't have a ton to work with. Receivers are well below average sans Engram. The offensive line has been improved, but was very exposed against the Vikings -Jones has a good sense of when and how to use his mobility. He isn't reckless, but is a constant threat with his legs, with very good pocket presence to sense when he should run and where to go with it. Also, has the frame to absorb some hits without shattering. I am not saying he is Mahomes. He isn't. But also its not a completely fair comparison. Mahomes had an absolute burner in Hill last year and got a year of experience under his belt before he started and lit the league on fire. It's not inconceivable from what I have seen that he could be a top 5 QB with more talent and experience. In terms of hobby, he doesn't need to be Mahomes. He is one of the better looking rookie QBs in a few years, and is in one of the hottest markets. Especially paired with a healthy Saquon, he could do some great things in the next few years, especially if he gets a legit #1 receiver at some point while keeping Engram. |

I’ll go back to when I said once he plays a good defense we will see. 2 good defenses in a row . 2 td and 5 ints.

Playing without his top 2 RB's the past 2 weeks has been a killer. This is a team that's built around Saquon. Then, on a short week this week, he's missing top 2 RB's, Top WR, Top TE. Moving on from MIN & NE, it will be interesting to see the showdown between the top 2 QB's from the draft next week when they play the Cards. Giants should have all their guys back (maybe with the exception of Shepard) and I would expect a better statistical performance from Jones. Hopefully he delivers. |
