Can't be a world series winner every year though. That's impossible.

What do you mean? JD was gonna get robbed of his 3rd straight MVP while powering them to the WC.

Agreed. Especially at the All Star break. He didn’t make the moves needed to put the Red Sox in contention.

This is not surprising. Need a closer for the last 5 months. Never got one. I'm not going to complain because his deals did win us a WS, but we are also very much behind the 8 ball now with some of the signings.

Curious timing but...

Defending champs - he did his job in 2018.

2019 - High expectations, rotation and bullpen are a travesty - that's on him.

When asked for comment, Dombrowski only stared into the middle distance, knees pulled close to his chest, muttering “Too many dingahs. They just hit too many dingahs.”

His two year average could still end up 100 wins, is already 92 wins even if they lose every single game from here on out, and has to be expected to end up at ~97 wins. His 3-year will end up at ~95 wins.

There has to be something else, because this team has absolutely performed. If not, it's a team that is supposed to understand variance letting the variance monster eat Dombrowski.

I think the Redsox see post Dombrowski Tigers and sense we gotta dump this guy now before we become a doormat and build the farm system back up ASAP. I see Mookie being traded for sure now.

Red Sox just trying to stay relevant in the Boston News cycle with the Patriots starting up.

So is Cora safe. Talk about thanks for nothing Dombrowski didn’t even last the full season after winning a World Series.

Big market, no manager is ever safe

That's the problem with averages. Me, my neighbor, and Bill Gates have an average net worth of $35 billion. Average win totals don't help you when the most recent season is 9 games over .500 and for all intents and purposes out of the playoff race.

& brian cashman somehow still has his job!

As a NON PITCHER junk heap talent evaluater he gets an A+.

Rest of his tenure is an F-!

I give him NO Credit for the 98-00 World Series as he just rode Gene Michael & Bob Watson's building & coattails.

So in the last 18 Years he has 1 World Series & that was the year he spent 500 Million on Free Agents!

With the money the Yanks spent the since 2001 to have 1 World Series win
( Red Sox 4 Giants 3 Cardinals 2 Marlins 1 hmmmmmmmmmmmmm) is a joke.

He Fired Joe Girardi who got to the 7th game of the ALCS & the next year didnt even MAKE the ALCS! That should have been the final nail in his coffin!

No I am not "One of those Yankee fans". I just dont see how this guy kept his job all these years.

NYY 94-50
TB 86-59
BOS 76-67

Overall 7th best record in AL, 8 GB of Wild Card, 17.5 GB of Yankees.

Not difficult to see this firing coming. As defending champs expectations are higher than being 7th best and missing the playoffs. I'm just glad he got fired off of a Yankees series, it's better for the rivalry.

Figured this would happen at the end of the year but right now is a bit surprising.

Doesn't take much to assemble a good team when you've got one of the largest payrolls in the game (and right now, THE largest) but he's shown after 20+ years to be clueless as a bullpen evaluator. The bullpen hasn't been as bad as everyone makes it out to be when compared to the rest of the league, but the Sale, Price & Eovaldi contracts are killing them right now and will force Mookie out of town if their rotation continues to sour under the weight of their contracts.

Dombrowski gets a bit of a raw deal but that's the price you pay in Boston these days. I think Cora gets at least another year because cornerstone young guys like Devers & Bogaerts love him. But this probably signals a shift where Mookie and J.D. leave in the next calendar year.

Bullpen decisions have killed the Sox. They basically went all-in on Brasier, and it bit them hard. I'm curious whose decision it was to shorten the rotation load in ST. They came out of the gate horribly, and never recovered.

Amen. Something was not handled correctly in spring training.

Boston's bullpen this season - 4.24 ERA, .233 BAA, 28 saves, 27 blown saves, worst save pctg in american league, 35 HBP (2nd most in AL),

Boston's starters - 4.98 ERA, .264 BAA

I'd say pitching as a whole is the problem. No dominant closer to shut the door after letting Kimbrel work, but starter's didn't really give them a great shot at it either as they were 7th in save opportunities in the AL
