Default What are the most difficult grade 10 baseball cards?

Hi,

If there is already a thread on this, please share it. I searched but couldn't seem to find it.

I am wondering what are the most difficult grade 10 cards/sets in baseball card history?

Thanks.

Nothing is difficult if you have the right tools and a large grading account.

For T206, I discovered from PSA population reports that there are only 13 cards graded as 10, of the 241,098 T206 cards PSA graded.

I've seen some of them and was not impressed. One of them that stands out in my mind is quite a bit OC for a 10. Can't remember the player's name.

Edited to add: if anyone wants a good laugh take a look at the Bill Shipke in a PSA 10 (especially the top edge and stain) or the Red Kleinow (upper left corner). Both were sold through Heritage in 2018.

Pretty much any card that is or has :

Foil card stock - like 93 sp jeter - prone to chipping on edge and corners.

Colored borders - like any paper card stock card with colored borders - prone to chiping on edges and poor centering cause of borders.

Colored paper stock - like any paper card stock that the color design runs the entirety of the card. like for example the topps update black, independence day and gold parallels - prone to small white chips on edges and corners.

“Ever” I can’t speak about... but in 2018 I’d have to say the ‘83 or Heritage black border or anything from Topps Gallery

Any of the E-X 2000 releases. Baseball is 1997. Basketball is 1996-97. Football is 1997.
Factory sizing issues, diamond cuts, irregular alignment, interior surfaces, die cutting, and surrounded by condition sensitive rainbow foil, on a thick stock acetate sandwich.

I don't have a large grading account and have scored. It is more of the grader than the grading company.

The ones that come to mind have been mentioned previously:

1963 Topps
1971 Topps (you have min size problems in addition to black borders)
1986 Topps
1993 SP Foils

The worst I've had experience with is '85 Leaf.
• Black borders
• Leaf quality control (not to mention how bad it is on the FIRST Leaf release)
• Fuzzy cut borders
• Ultra thin card stock

Another, but way more specific: '87 O Pee Chee Barry Bonds

All wildly OC. Many diamond cut. Crap card stock.

Centering is a #@#@#@#@#@#@ on 1974 Topps Football... one of my favorite sets.

I’d say the majority of Topps colored flagship parallels from the last 10-15 years come out of the pack an 8 or 8.5. It leads to high sale prices when truly clean copies come up for sale.
And raised eyebrows as well now.
