Thanks man! Always fun to watch the Hockey East tilts! We should have a couple titles in the last few years, but have never gotten over that final hump...

Now I need to go out and find that Agganis card unautoed for myself, I never actually gave it much thought, but now that I saw it, I want one too!

I definitely will let you know. We have Beckett at the shop this Saturday and Sunday so I have been going through and digging for stuff to get graded. There is just to much stuff in the shop that first needs accurately graded for condition/authenticity before I start selling the items. I also have never graded vintage (just modern) so I am "testing" with Beckett's raw grades to see how it goes. I know that comparing BVG to PSA on the actual grade is not that accurate so I am getting the PSA grade would be close to 1-1.5 less? As soon as those are back Sunday it will be time to prep a PSA sub so hopefully a month or so out on getting the Agganis back. There are some big vintage cards being graded this week by multiple people at the show and I will be sure and post the pics. One of them a 52 Topps Mantle.

This. To max out the value sent it to Goldin auctions or Robert Edwards. It's easily worth thousands.

Update

We just had Beckett Authentication at the shop and the Harry Agganis passed. There were also quite a few Sports Illustrated's that passed too including 5-6 Muhammed Ali, Willie Mays, and Walter Payton.

It's amazing that something like this exists when there was a very short window in which he could have signed it. Especially since getting an autograph on a baseball card wasn't much of a thing back in 1955.

So youd pay the same for one with signed "To Joe" as you would one without that personalization?

For some rare names, I'd pay more.

Autos were different then, pretty sure personalization was preferred by auto seekers and Agganis has literally no autos out there due to his untimely death, so in this case yes- I would pay the same (if I needed one) and I'm sure others would too. (I actually collect Auto'd baseballs, and prefer ones I get in person or through signings to be personalized)

Default Doc Steen

I collect autographs from the Doc Steen collection, for a number of reasons including the provenance. I have turned down signed M101-2s and M114s without the Steen provenance. Here are two of my faves...

I understand given the rarity that you have to take what is available. That said if this wasnt personalized I'm sure it would bring a premium.

The only case of a personalized autograph helping is the aforementioned provenance attached to a particular known autograph seeker/collector/historian. At least in my opinion.

Tough to say. PSA's pop report shows only one authenticated. Is that this one?

This is one of those situations where only an open auction would tell. (Probably deserves an Auction house over eBay). I would think $1000+++, but quite possibly more depending on who needs it for their collection.

It is authenticated by beckett. They were at the shop a year ago and did it then. So I guess there are two of them?

Seriously, call up the athletics department of Boston University. That is where he attended and their arena is named after him. I'd be partially shocked if they didn't at least show some interest in it. It looks like this is their direct line, 617) 414-6835. Let them know it has been authenticated.

This imo, belongs with them or somewhere in a museum and not a personal collection. It is super rare and needs the best home for it, not just some random guy because he has a lot of money.

Just an update on this thread, I am the new owner of the Harry Agganis card. I’m building a signed 1955 Topps set and am currently 19 cards from completion. I am truly honored to have it in my possession and part of my set.
