I played HS basketball against Xavier Nady and Evan Rust (Cardinals) and one of my HS buddies little brothers is relief pitcher Carlos Torres. Not baseball related, but I played some 2 on 2 against Steve Nash when he was at Santa Clara...we got destroyed.

*I’m still looking for Carlos’ 2009 Bowman Sterling Black 1/1 for my rainbow

I went to HS in Saginaw, MI. I don't think any (baseball) cardboard has been produced that has guys I played against on it.

I'm not nearly old enough to have played with Curt Young or played against Jim Abbott. That's the only two names I can even drop.

Played against Jarrod Washburn in High School. He was from a small town Webster, WI (pop about 600) but he was in a lower division so didn't think we'd ever play him. Even though he was 50 miles away and in another division we heard of him. In them days they would invite 4 high school teams from Western Wis to play in the Metrodome for a day........thats how and where I played against him.

Now he coaches the high school team in Webster and he just repeated as state champs two years in a row 2018 and 2019.

Cool story, played against Bert Blyleven's son in HS. He threw low 90's (claimed) at the time. I had one AB in a scrimmage against him as a sophomore. I think he was a junior or senior. I was geared up for the heater, so I thought. He spun me a curve or slider, cant remember which, my eyes were probably closed, that jammed me up and I ended up flaring a gork right over 2b. Had he thrown me the heater I wouldn't have had a shot.
Never faced anything that hard before or after. Some of my fingers may still be at home plate at Villa park HS in So Cal.

Now I am starting to collect players that my son plays with in travel tourneys and showcase events. Some of them play Team USA ball and there first cards are coming out in Panini Stars and Stripes and stuff like that. It will be fun to follow them as they progress or flame out!

Only one guy I played with growing up played any pro ball and he didn't make it out of low a. He was a catcher, the Phillies signed him and tried to make him a pitcher.

My brother played against CJ Edwards a few times, and he use to play pick up basketball with us when he was in high school. He wasn't the best pitcher on his high school team, another kid was dominate, but he didn't have the mental capacity to make it out of rookie ball. CJ still comes back to town in the off season and runs youth camps. Great guy, he works hands on with every kid out there, and signs autographs for all of them.

My cousin played on the back to back national championship teams at South Carolina in 2010 and 2011, he was also on the 2012 team that lost in the finals. He made it to AA and decided it was time to hang it up. His roommate in college was Michael Roth who had some time in the big leagues and had a 1.17 career ERA in the five College World Series games he started.

I played little league (was probably 9-10) with Marcus Stroman. He was easily the best pitcher and hitter in the league and was terrifying to hit against and even field against. I remember making multiple errors in the field when he hit the ball to me because he hit it so damn hard. Pretty sure I got a hit or 2 off him though.

I've had a small collection of him in the past but don't own anything currently. If he gets traded to the Yankees that may change.

Played in a tournament a few years back against a team with Carter Kieboom, Will Benson, and Braxton Garrett. Picked up a couple base autos of all of them, just thought it would be cool to have

I bet he had the sweetest swing even back then. Man I hated to see him leave the Tribe. Probably more than I'll hate losing Lindor.

My only known brush with athletic fame is that I was a teammate of Aaron Sele for about 1/2 of a Babe Ruth League season around 1981 or so. I had moved into the area that year, after being a star level player on a championship team from another area the year prior, but was not known in the new town. This would end up being my last year of organized ball and I would miss a good part of the latter part of the season for a vacation, so I don't even recall if we appeared in a game together.

I don't collect his cards specifically but have picked up a few nicer ones from time to time.

Played ball with Mike Bacsik when we were kids. He gave up THAT home run to Bonds.

Dick Pole.

Great teammate, but always had to come out of the game prematurely due to control issues.

Went to school with former MLB pitcher Brent Leach and graduated/played ball with his little brother Brian Leach (he made it to Double A I believe and retired).

Brian and I both played against former MLB player Tyler Moore.

My last at-bat in high school was a swinging K against a Freshman pitcher from Parkersburg high school named Nick Swisher.

Funny thing - Nick didn’t pitch again (high school or college) until April 13, 2009, when he took the mound for the Yankees. He struck out the first batter he faced - Gabe Kapler.

So - I got that going for me..... which is nice.

My very first at bat as a freshman on varsity was a swinging k against a senior Brien Taylor. 3 swings, doubt I came close to any of them, and not sure I have ever been so scared in my life.

I played baseball with Kregg Talburt who got drafted by the Mets and Jason Girdner who played A Ball with the Rays organization. Neither of them have cards that I'm aware of. Kregg never actually signed with the Mets I don't think and Jason only played for part of a year after he got out of the military.

A couple guys I played ball with played for OU's 2000 National Championship football team, Mike Skinner and Laromie Hammer. I also hung out with Teddy Lehman because he, my best friend John, and my cousin Ronnie all played football together at Ft. Gibson. I have a couple of his RCs but don't really collect him. Nice dude off the field but he was a crazy man with a helmet on. Too bad he didn't come along 10 years later. He'd probably still be playing in the NFL with his skillset.

The only guy from my home town that I know of that has cards is Ryan Helsley and he's currently with the Cardinals. I've been picking up cards as I see them but again it's not a focus. It makes me feel old to have a kid I coached in 4th/5th Grade football playing professional baseball.

My dad played against Bob Davis, who played with the Padres and others, and Johnny Ray, the 1987 Donruss Opening Day Barry Bonds ERR guy, in high school. I have RCs of both but that's about it.

John Sellers, a local coach and elementary school principal, was drafted twice out of college, once by the KC As and once by the Reds, but he didn't sign with either. The Reds drafted him in 1967 so he could have been part of The Big Red Machine if he'd signed and made it. Even into his 60s he was heck of a softball player and athlete. His younger brother Dickie played 3B with my dad when they won the state title in '71 and he was even better than John I've been told. He was one of my high school coaches and even then in his late 40s you could tell he had been one hell of an athlete. I've never seen anyone with better hands or feet, be it on the diamond or the basketball court.

I have not played with any, but Jake Odorizzi struck me out on three pitches at an All Star game. I’ve made it a point to have him on my fantasy team ever since he came up haha

1999 I played same Varsity Team in SoCal with 3 draftees. Pauly was the only one to make it to the show and had walk off with Padres featured on Top 10 Baseball Tonight. Not bad to have 3 draftees play on the same squad.

In 2001 and 2002 our team rival was Camarillo with Delmon Young former #1 overall pick.
