Default What if MLB told topps they could no longer produce bowman products the way we know?

The year is 2025. Due to years of complaints and confusion from collectors worldwide, MLB now forbids topps from producing cards of players depicted in their major league uniforms until they actually play in a MLB game. The rookie card rule is now solidified with no more gray area.

Topps is still allowed to produce bowman products, but only if the players are depicted in plain clothes or their minor league uniforms. Now imagine how this changes your collecting landscape (I know, making BO board members think. I will lose about 95% of you), if at all.

Do you still prospect/buy bowman? Do you switch over to rookie logo cards, and if so, what brands become the most popular and/or most expensive?

Wouldn't change my personal collecting one way or another. I loath prospect cards. I would welcome said change!

For me, it wouldn't change much. I don't go out of my way to open Bowman or Prospect anyone in the products, just not much appeal to me.

Won't happen -- both sides know it sells too much to nix.

Wouldn't bother me at all, I'd probably enjoy the change. As an aside, I would love a throwback to 1992 Bowman plain clothes cards. Only if they are wearing the clothes from 1992 though.

I'd love it just to see page after page of people crying about it. They're nothing but glorified minor league cards anyway.

I would’ve love to have seen a San Francisco Seals card depicting Joe DiMaggio on a card equivalent in quality to any MLB card.

Joe was in the MLB for 13 years but far fewer in the MiLB which makes his MiLB cads more rare. His having MLB logo’d pre-rookie cards expands the number of his MLB cards, making them more plentiful, and, in today’s market, less compelling.

There are way too many MLB-logo’d cards today, limiting them to players who have only made the MLB will help the hobby greatly in reducing this number.

I enjoy the '92 Bowman Chipper Jones -- especially the belt.

unis are airbrushed on the bowman's anyway, they have a pro debut and heritage minors set.

too much $ involved to stop this process.

heck some of the topps now images are not even from the same game as the achievement.

have some fun look at a couple of 2015 francisco lindor cards (topps chrome SP and his Pro debut)

The only thing I can think of is it hurting the team collectors if it didn't associate them with the MLB team.

I actually think it would be pretty cool if they had a Bowman for the various levels of MiLB as well like Draft is for recent drafted players and those in single A or below. Bowman is for AA and Bowman Chrome is for AAA.

I would love it!
It doesn't make sense now.
1.

Bowman Prospect 1st year card $$$$
Bowman Prospect 2nd year card (who cares)
Bowman Prospect 3rd year card (who cares)
Bowman Rookie Card Yay $$$

2.

Bowman Baseball 1-150 paper prospects
1-150 chrome prospects
Bowman Chrome 151-300 chrome prospects
No paper prospects 151-300
Bowman Draft Paper & Chrome prospects

Let Bowman be a minor league card with Pro Debut, & Heritage Minors, sorts out the minors from the majors.

and I would put the logo of the Major league team affiliate's logo on the card too

How can it be a Topps “Now”card if its images are from “Before”??

Thanks a lot, Topps...!

But the MLB can stop any process it wants to.

So then does it fall under the MiLB license or the MLB license? (I actually would like MiLB cards to note the organization with a logo ... but there's licensing involved and MLB make the call.)

I think it would be better to only include a player in their major league unis only after they have made a MLB appearance. I know it won't happen but it makes sense.

What they would lose in Bowman sales would be made up in sales of all other products that would contain true rookie cards - it all evens up for topps and may be better for all other products across the board.

Why do we have to change things up. There's nothing wrong with the way bowman is produced now. I am actually a fan.

That doesn't make sense. They already have BOTH. Bowman cards AND sets with True RCs. Getting rid of one wouldn't increase the other.

It makes sense because if topps turns bowman into a true minor league product, collector sentiment would shift to the rookie card, thus allowing topps to increase production on all their other products.

They might as well stop producing it. I’m hearing that most can no longer afford Bowman at preselected prices

I would be sad that the traditional rookie card would end in 2025
