This pisses me off so much. How hard is it for the grading companies to measure dimensions?! My god. It’s intentional negligence because they’ve gone too far chasing the green and can’t go back now.

It really never ends. I seem to have found a trimmed 1/1 Jordan, but I want to check out the underlying sub first to confirm.

Block is probably behind the Giannis. Simmons is Burge. Rest are a mix of Burge and Jaimet, with Burge doing the majority.

ETA: Kobe is Burge/Vinny too.

Can there be any legal consequences for the trimmers?

Man what the hell!!! They trimming Simmons Rookie Prizm /5. Thats pretty ballsy. I thought they where only trimming paper. This really has me concerned now. The nerve of the scum to manipulate people out of thousands. I really hope the day comes that they are locked up and put in a cell so they can stare at a wall all day. Maybe pick up the soap.

Here is a Lebron that seems very suspect. The right edge and corners are my main concern. Looks like the top corner especially is just slightly rounded and a very small edge issue might have been cleaned up but could be a little difficult to confirm from just those pics.

Very doubtful. They would personally have to admit it themselves since there are really no witnesses (assuming they do this on their own).

They are basically outted from the business / hobby though.

Very suspect is a good classification. I’ll check up the BGS sub to see if it looks like it’s going to go one way or the other.

L to R: Kevin Burge, Vinny Ho, Keith Koenig

Burge rivals Robert Block as the most prolific trimmer of modern cards. He has a sordid history in the hobby and a lengthy criminal record.
See: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1185615
and https://www.google.com/search?ei=w4A...iz.406pVxsmi5k

Vinny Ho was found selling two trimmed cards with two different eBay accounts, avsports888 and tonkabearbrons23. See: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1284351

Keith Koenig is a known buyer of unaltered cards for Burge, who then trims them. He also once had an association with known trimmer Steven Tormollan. See: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1295981

Even when factory cut by the companies not all cards measure up exactly. Some cards could be slightly oversize, some slightly under. Thus an allowance by grading companies.

Nice work op, thanks for posting these!

So what then would be the solution to all this trimming if the manufacturing company cuts the cards in different measurements? i guess it's up to the manufacturer to have a stricter cut to scale so every card is measured exactly the same. Pretty sure this is possible..

It’s the same solution as assigning a grade to card centering. Centering is a miss cut tolerance. There’s no reason card size can’t also get a grade. Is a psa10 with unideal size really a 10. It’s still miss cut, grade accordingly.

I'm suprised the card manufactures themselves haven't offered a service to re-cut cards. So many come out of the pack damaged anyways. They could be making a ton of money. I have a feeling if they did offer the service, because it would be done by the card manufacture people would not look down on it so much.

You have to admit a cleaned up sharp card looks amazing

I'm not saying that I approve of trimming at all by after market scammers! I think its very sleezy, and shady, and disgusting. It is altering cards and it should be labeled as an altered card. And I am glad it is being exposed. And I really hope some people put all these faces on a flyer and pass them out at the national and every other card show down the road.

grading is just highly overrated.

id rather buy a flawed card than an altered card being passed as a gem.

I would be inclined to say yes.

If the card was trimmed, and I bought it, then I would want to return it. Let's say I spent $10k. The card has been restored so I dont want it anymore. I try to send it back. The seller refuses. Even with my argument that it has been restored/altered. Which was not disclosed.

I take it to court. Court may or may not side with me. Let's say court does and orders seller to refund my money.

Now imagine this happening 1000 times over. These cards have crossed state lines and primary argument is fraud against the sellers behalf. I would think if enough of the high dollar buyers were to file a complaint, I would think it would get heard.

The tough part would be getting these guys to admit they doctored the card. In a court of law you could prove the fact the card was altered but the problem would be proving when, who, and what was used to alter the card. Accusation is one thing, burden of proof is another.

Indeed. I think it would take a collective effort of the owners of the trimmed cards to band together and attempt a refund. Ultimately, it's the finger pointing I'm waiting for. Collector to seller to grader back to seller.

I'm waiting to see if this even plays out. When $$$$ is involved, someone is due to crack. Same thing with the recent sting, I believe it was called Operation Bullpen? Granted, that was forging, but I'm willing to bet something similar comes along.
