When packages come in for authentication, someone from our team opens the packages and lays it out for me, along with their contact information. These packages come in through the week and then I go to work on the weekends to do the authentication. There is only 1 person who looks at the items for authentication. That’s me. Nobody else here does this job. Just me. We want to make sure its done consistently and correctly. This is why my weekends are completely taken up by this process. Only I can authenticate.

The process that I do involves looking over each and every pack. Not half the box. Not a percentage of the box. But I look over every single pack in every box. It takes time, but this is the way it is done. Believe me, looking over every single pack in boxes of junk wax really can get boring!

So how did this happen with the 1981 pack being in a 1982 box? Well, I first take out a stack of 9 packs and look at the corner folds on all 9 packs as they still sit in the group of 9. I look at both sides. I then look at the roller mark on each of the 9 packs. I do this for all 4 stacks (or 3 stacks or whatever the size box is). The surface of the pack is basically zero percent of authenticating a box. The whole process involves the corner folds, the roller marks and really nothing to do with the top surface of the pack. I do check the surface for price tags (You will see boxes we label as W/Price Tags if they are still on the pack). So with this in mind, the pack is red from both years and has a similar back from both years. The corner folds are the same as is the roller mark. So how did I miss it? Was a simple mistake. Yes, us humans will do that occasionally. I cant walk on water yet, so mistakes can happen. It happened and we will try not to let it happen anymore. We have done over 10,000 boxes of authentication/wrapping and this is the first time I have heard of this happening. Thanks for listening! Steve

Steve STILL hasn't defined "authentic." This stain on our hobby will not stand. Truthers, start truthing for the truth until the truth truthes us in the face.

DAMN IT, STEVE, MAN, CAN'T YOU SEE? This isn't about stupid roller marks or corner folds or getting factory unopened product... THIS IS ABOUT DEFINITIONS. Authentic? HA! That could mean anything! How do I know the oranges at my market are authentic? Where's my produce manager? Does HE know what authentic means? Do you? More importantly.... Do you know who I am!?

I mean, he sets up a thing for his Patreons and sends this 1/5th of the value he charges them. He acts like a scumbag during his flea market videos. He sells batting practice balls as "game used" on Ebay. He sells the cards that his "fans" send him. He tried using his thyroid cancer story to get donations and people to subscribe. His actions at batting practice before games is pathetic and the only rival is Zack Hample. Only a child acts like those two do at the ball park. No one hates him because he is "successful", people dislike him because of his scumbag ways despite being an adult and having a profession as a "teacher".

He may sound nice when opening breaks, but just watch breaks coming from Houdini or other breakers. The majority of people who support him really are not bright individuals who are just hoping to get an "internet friend" or someone to mention their name on camera. Like Boston said, his fans are "not brilliant".

Until 2 months ago I didn't even really know that there were YouTube "breaks" videos. The last time I collected there wasn't even Youtube...heck, there was barely an Internet.

Jabs was one of the first breakers that I watched and subscribed to. It would seem that others on here watch him (and maybe his brother) since this video was watched by several other forum members.

I always found his videos to be well made, he presents the cards well, speaks clearly, and isn't a "dead-fish" like of the other folks breaking packs on YouTube.

It seems like people on here hate him though??? Did he steal from someone? Scam someone? I am not being a smarta**, I am genuinely curious as I don't want to "promote" someone who is damaging the hobby. Being late to the game I totally expect that I have missed A LOT, and I may have missed him doing something shady.

I don't think that his fans sending him random expensive stuff, or paying him for a "subscription" and not getting "good" stuff is cause for hate. If they want to support him that's their business, and as long as they know what he's selling...I don't care. It would seem that they like him and what he's doing. I'm not sending him $100 bucks for a random bp ball...or sending him a computer anytime soon...but I won't bash him for being (relatively) successful. F him though if he's a genuine scam artist.

What a great, honest explanation for just a few dollar pack.

Over a million dollars uncovered from PSA's negligence in the past few weeks and we get hardly a response.

But I thought Steve would never authenticate every single pack in such a worthless box?

He stated that he inspects every pack for the boxes he wraps. That's the info I was looking for. Since there is no written guarantee and that info is not mentioned on his site.

Default BBCE Authentication Process

I have worked at BBCE for the last 3.5 years so I wanted to drop a line here in regards to the 82 Donruss boxes opened on the Jabs Family YouTube this past week. Yes, an 81 pack mistakenly made its way into a box of 82 Donruss. This boils down to a human mistake plain and simple. When authenticating boxes and packs the main focus is given to the back of packs to check for proper wax roller marks and then also on the sides to check corner folds. As I am sure you know 81 and 82 Donruss packs were the same color and had very similar front. Unfortunately, this one pack slipped by during the authentication process. I have watched Steve put countless hours into BBCE authentication and can promise he takes that aspect of the business extremely seriously. He puts the same dedication into a box worth $8 as he does a box worth $800. There is no “cut off” to where the full box is not inspected as some have suggested on here. We are all humans and thus all make mistakes from time to time but in my 3.5 years working there this is the first time I have heard of a box having a pack it should not. Hopefully this will help some people ease their minds or look at it with more of an open mind that this box was not tampered with or anything of that nature.

Thank you. Some people are eating crow in this thread. I have sent packs/ boxes in for BBCE authentication and have had nothing but positive and professional experiences.

If he assigns a cutoff year or value, it won't work long term. His brand is not maximized for future resale because prices change. Imagine a 2011 Topps Update BBCE wrapped box you bought that was wrapped in '11 and you open it now and it has a few '10 update packs inside. Quite a loss. But it got the "82" treatment because it was okay at the time since the packs "were only $3".
My question was rhetorical, since I was pretty sure that Steve puts time into every box, despite what those other posters were saying.

One mistake is more than zero, and that is too many. Your business must now be destroyed. Your reputation is ruined. We must all now band together to ensure the total destruction of your life, that of your family members, and anyone you've ever dealt with professionally, and perhaps even personally. Do you have a dog... don't let it outside or we'll all be sure to point that little mongrel out as being bereft of decency for every step it takes on grass or pavement!

Of course, I kid. Love BBCE, all they do and all that Steve and his staff represent. It's sad though, almost seems like that is the overarching mantra of the forums these days. Find a single fault and press on it until that person or business is irreparably harmed. It's sad and rather pathetic.

What's been uncovered and perpetrated through PWCC is disgusting of the highest form, and the fear and skepticism it's bore throughout the hobby is beyond unfortunate... but come on people, let's enjoy the hobby... not let stone throwing become the newest, lasting hobby trend!

I definitely believe the info that was provided should be posted somewhere on his site and/or offer a written guarantee. It makes the whole thing more transparent and offers others a peace of mind.

No one is treating this like the PWCC/PSA thing. Most of it could have been avoided if the old guarantee and/or process wasn’t removed from the site. Some healthy skepticism in the hobby is a good thing. There are a few posters in here that are hardcore defenders of PSA and defended PWCC until it became blatantly obvious that the actions were indefensible. They tried to mock the work being done by 312, Dan, and Corndog by making jokes or little dumb comments to distract the info in those threads. Without skepticism of PSA/BGS/PWCC, then those altered cards would not have been brought to the light.

The most amazing part of this is not that it happened.....but that it got the most exposure because even though there are probably 100 Blowout members buying more unopened boxes than Jabs does, he is the one that has five figure views on these boxes being cracked on camera.

Anyone else doing so in the privacy of their own home on an exciting weekend of opening vintage wax, but NOPE, it had to be Jabs.......it's all too hilarious!

And that is a good thing to know. I figured that he would be if he is claiming authentic. I think it would be a problem if he said he checked every other pack closely. Now that we know this, we know a mistake occurred. In the end these things can happen. Never thought anything nefarious was afoot, but clarity is a good thing.

I created a thread about Jabs Family a month or so ago. I think his videos are creepy. The guy travels the east coast to weird flea markets every day with a camera on his chest. He seems clueless about cards. He has an account on blowout, but I am not sure what the username is. I have loved cards since I was a little kid, but jeez Jabs Family has a lot of time on his hands.
