I proved that is not acceptable based on the '11 update example. That BBCE only looks at a few packs, authenticates the whole box and that's supposed to be acceptable. It's not.
That's up to Steve and Company, it's their process and their reputation. That's exactly what people pay a premium for. Whatever they state on their website is what they guarantee. Obviously a more thorough check needs to be done for certain boxes. They made an error and they will make good on it. To error is to be human. Even this YouTube guy stated the wrappers looked the same. If the box was 2011 Update or 1952 Topps, if there was an error, Steve would fix it, no matter the cost.

Seemingly, you're attempting to force some kind of authentication process that isn't explained on their website. To that, I say, start your own company?

No, you're imagining this.

KEEP IN MIND THE WRAPPERS ARE RED from both 1981 and 1982

... spot check the box, packs look good, then make sure there are Nine packs per stack, four stacks in the box.

since the wrappers are all red, easy to eye-ball the stack, and move on

MISTAKES HAPPEN. This is a low end product, millions made.

you really think this was intentional?

There is a reason BBCE charges a percentage of the value to wrap boxes. It's their guarantee. The more expensive the box, the more expensive it is for him to correct a potential mistake. MISTAKES HAPPEN!

ThoseBackpages is correct, I guarantee he checks random packs for resealing then does the stack count and puts HIS guarantee on it with the wrap. If there is a mistake, he'll correct it.

What does not help is the lack of defining what "authentication" entails. No explanation on his site or any news stories that I could find. The nature of his business is detail oriented. You would think it would be spelled out what this service entails. Was it intentionally left out for legal reasons so it would be in a "gray area".

Many on here feel he guarantees his work. While I believe this to be true, I could not find that stated anywhere. Verbal contracts do not hold water too well in court. Based on this Google search, he used to have a guarantee that said "everything we sell is 100% unsearched and fresh". But once you click on the link, it's gone.

https://www.google.com/search?q=bbce...hrome&ie=UTF-8

I see box authentication from him (not FASC) as the right amount of packs from that year/set. Similar but better than a ebay box. Could be built, back filled etc. It was "preserved" by being wrapped once he had custody of it. Less hands in the cookie jar from that point on. Individual pack seals not inspected. He's more likely to have good boxes considering his sources vs. that random ebay seller who grabbed a box from the Swap Meet. I'd also rather buy from him as my $100 transaction to him is nothing. It helps, but that's not what pays his rent. For the random ebay seller, that box sale very well could be rent money with an increased chance for foul play.

Some see it as he checks most packs, calls it good and wraps it up.

Others think they're all removed and color/details checked while in stacks.

Others feel every seal is checked.

If not stated on the website what "authentication" means to him, it should be on the product.

Here is the BBCE label.

This one does not guarantee anything either but at least has some info. on what to expect.

What is the point of buying a BBCE sealed box if that doesn't mean that none of the packs are resealed?

How is it a tampered box? If those 81 Fleer were in an 82 wrapper, by all means! If it it was marked FASC, definitely! Otherwise, collation is a different beast. It's easy to open a Fleer case, open each box until you find a Ripken than leave the remaining and "put together" full boxes when done.

BBCE guaranteed the packs were untampered with.

They made a mistake with that 81 pack, they'll fix it.

This is why there is a PREMIUM on FROM A SEALED CASE (FASC) boxes

What sucks is I was buying unopened for my children. When they sell the collection as adults it's very likely Steve will not be alive anymore. What then? Hope his brand is still around and those in charge have the same integrity as Steve?

The second box is from Tom Salem. He, too, is a stand-up guy and will correct any wrong he makes.

They will have no money in the collection, therefore, they will make 100% profit regardless of the sales price.

So we're all fantasizing about the perfect "Unopened Authenticator" and attempting to force our own best practices. I guess we'll have to settle for their reputation or random people on eBay. Coin flip I suppose.

Tampered in the sense that it's not a legit box..I believe the Ripken was pulled and lazingly replaced with a 81 pack.

So I hope this guy gets his money back. Or a deal on something else.

Oh, so people know. I bought 5 1972 Topps series 2 packs from him a few years back. I opened 2 and pulled a Staubach RC, PSA 9 OC. I looked at the front card on the 3rd, Johnny Unitas. The 4th had O.J. Simpson. The 5th had a running back from the Dolphins. I had no idea who it was so I opened it. Yup, Larry Csonka. Duh! I still trust them even after this 1982 Fleer fiasco.

Every year I buy my son a gold eagle ounce for his birthday. If he's a good kid, he'll get them on his 18th birthday. He doesn't know I buy them. Hopefully he never finds this thread!

Maybe they do, nobody knows except BBCE. We're all just imagining how they do it, how it should be done and how we can correct it if it's not done how we imagine they should do it.
