2 more hits so far, 3 strikeouts though. It's nice to see him keep the average up, but he's been striking quite often lately. Still think he'll correct that though

Oddly enough I feel like he's taking a lot of pitches (even strikes)

For a guy who is striking out too much I just don't feel like he's up there hacking at everything.

He’s back to smashing offspeed for the most part but still consistently missing very hittable fastballs. That’s part of the reason he’s striking out so much. He’s either not catching up to the heat with 2 strikes or he’s watching fastballs go by for strike 3. He’s been getting jammed quite a bit with inside fastballs as well but he’s been lucky enough to get some hits because of his speed and enough strength to fight them off. If he can get his timing back on those then we’ll see a stretch like we did after the AS break.

Indeed. His K% is slightly down from last year. He seems to be trying to develop a better “All Fields” approach which is evident in his spray chart: 40% Pull, 30% Center and 30% Opposite field.

That’s impressive to see in a young hitter, but he’s currently sacrificing high fastballs at that expense since he’s looking for slow stuff away to send to CF and LF. A more HR conscious hitter would tap more in to the pullside power and crush all the fastballs in the zone, but you’d see a huge uptick in the K%.

This is why you see guys try to bust him hard up and in, since you can sneak that pitch in with good velocity before he recognizes it. It’s lead to a lot of HBPs, so we’re fortunate he had that Kevlar Elbow Guard!

It's evident pitchers are either trying to get him out up or in. He prefers the ball down and/or out over the plate like Trout.
