Was out all day so just catching up. Imagine this scenario:

You are at the National this year. You see a card in the dealer's case. You ask him how much, he says $350. You get out the $350, pay him, he says thanks, and you walk away. 7 hours later the dealer tracks you down and says, "Hey buddy, I'm so sorry, but I need that card back. Some other guy just came to my table and told me it was worth $1,000, and that I way undersold it, and if I wanted to offer it to someone else instead, I will get more, so here's your $350 back and I'll need the card back. Thanks!"

That's what happened here. I know some of you won't agree with me, and that's okay if I'm a "dick," but the way I see it, Joe Harwood (aka PhDBeckett) stole anywhere from $200 to $700 from me. Again, I know you don't see it that way, but that's how I see it. So, yeah, I was pissed. I messaged him on here before I started the thread asking him if he asked the seller to cancel, but then I was like, forget it, this guy is a tool and I'm just going to let everyone else know (and no, I didn't close my eyes). I wasn't happy about losing a few hundred bucks.

Then he came on here, showed the screenshot (which obviously incriminated him), and hasn't responded since. He hasn't responded to another PM (not that I would expect him to), and he hasn't posted since then. Since then, several members who know him told me this is how he rolls, that he is a dishonest, money hungry dude. Could I have done things different? Probably. Do I regret it? No. Has he done anything to make it right or to even apologize? No.

I was hoping me and Joe could be eskimo brothers (we need a term for two collectors who own the same rare card), but alas, it wasn't meant to be. I will guarantee you that card will end up in his hands. I think most of the board understands this.

This is EXACTLY how I see it, as well. A nuthugger or two might not see it this way, but they probably have never had it happen to them. Wonder if Joe H. will post the card once he gets it in????

Come back under another name!

The passive aggressive insert posts will continue under a new name.

Phdscd is a start. I had originally said phdtuffstuff right around when page one started, but didn’t take credit. Much disappoint.

I say he comes back under the same name. He just gives it a couple more days for the fire to burn out. He will come back because (like bdrr said) he likes to show that he knows more than anybody and likes to hear the sound of his own voice.

Kinda like a certain member that sounded off in the Lebron Exquisite trim thread. He promised to go away, but couldn't go away because he likes hearing the sound of his own voice......

Judging by how bad some of these trim jobs have been, I'm going to assume non-union craftsmanship

I love how every seller somehow has a sob story to somehow justify their reasons for being shitbags.

On a related topic. I offered two hundy on a card once on ebay. The guy agreed, then said he got offered 450 about 5 minutes later. Stuck to it though. Good man.
I won an eBay auction for a Westbrook NT RPA rookie for under $300 and the guy refused to ship and ghosted. I was so mad I never bid on another one.

I never thought about someone like BABeckett offering more and actually stealing it from me.

I'm sorry but how do you come back from this? When I first saw this thread, I never thought it'd get to this point. Glad to see people are basically 100% on board with how bad of a move this was. Really slimy.

Last seen at 5:53 am on Thursday morning. Probably caught up on the disaster of a thread (for him) and decided to call it a day. Rolled back over and pulled his blanket of Giannis cards over him and went back to sleep.

Trust me on this one.... when the Blowout mob wants your blood, staying away is often the right thing to do.

This probably doesn't mean much coming from me, but I hope he comes back. He's been a very valuable member to the boards.

Really, what is he supposed to do at this point?

I think it’s horrible people think he can’t “come back” from this

With everything going on in the hobby right now there is a lot of anger built up

But this hardly feels like a life sentence

And yes I agree it was wrong
Yes I would hold him to a higher standard than the seller

I'd think maybe a public apology would go a long way. I personally don't care, because I don't interact with him, but I'm sure if he came in and owned it that would help.

Then, give it a few days and let "the mob" go onto something new. We all know there will be something new!

Exactly, we are supposed to be men

I’m sure there are women here but mostly men

Curse him out, make the thread, do what you need to do

Then it’s over, move on

Hopefully he learns something

I agree he should apologize as it was wrong and a hobby unwritten rule of how to act

And I don’t even mean op who feels the pain the most but the mob does just pile and pile

i cant count the number of times i've lost out on a card in a true auction and wanted to message the seller an extra cut to sell it to me instead...

never done it... but damn if i havent considered it a lot...

beckett was in the wrong and the seller is as well but i'm thinking if one of us had an auction up for 350 and someone came along to say "hey, thats a 1200 dollar card" we'd be thanking them for the heads up.

i know after the sale that becomes moot but still...

it was a downlow offer on the card and tacky

One major difference is that you provided what appeared to be a sincere apology and an explanation. Your situation wasn’t as black and white, either. I’m not going to speak for everyone by saying we’ve all made mistakes, but I’ve made my own share of mistakes... not necessarily with cards, but other areas... We can all learn from those mistakes and become better people, but it starts with an acknowledgment and an apology, at minimum.

He will come back. You two are peas in a pod. You both think you're valuable. For the record, I add zero value here

Go Blowout Go!
