Lets not forget about Prop 65, what a headache. I really wish California would become its own country, convert to socialism and go in the direction of Venezuela.

Then we need another wall. Who has time for that?

Gee, you can't even wish us better luck than Venezuela?

As for becoming its own country, would it be "Amerifornia" or "Calmerica"?
Either would be appropriate, given how large a portion of the last of it we are these days, but I can't decide.
Regardless, we can't risk being mistaken for the rest of you after the fact, so what do you figure you all'd want for a new name?

I would prefer to secede and change our official language to Spanish personally. This would allow us to completely differentiate ourselves from the US.

Don't listen to this NoCal resident. They don't speak for us regular Californians who haven't lost our minds.

That's the beauty of this. The feeling is mutual so let's make it happen. We can still be trade partners. The demand from the US for Google, Youtube, Apple, Intel, Oracle, Disney, LucasArts, Genentech, Tesla, Facebook, Twitter, PayPal, Levi, HP, PayPal, Netflix, Pixar and much more would still exist.

I think they'd flee to texas in a heartbeat. If California would try to be self sufficient your tax rate would have to be 60%

I’ve lived in Texas, the second my military service was over, I went right back to CA.

Sure, the tax rate would go up. I think you could use Scandinavian countries as a model. Countries like Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark are good benchmarks. Oddly enough, they are always amongst the top in populations that are happiest. I guess free health care, education, much better work life, ability to travel with paid vacation for 6-8 weeks a year and much more helps. Those seem to offset the a bump in your tax rate rather easily.

I'd much rather live in a society that feels their society as a whole is better off being educated. The US goes with the approach of dumbing down the vast majority of society so they can be happy being vassals to their capitalistic lords.

I lived in San Jose for a couple years when my dad was in the Air Force and mostly hated it BUT... I saw The Misfits and Black Flag in Santa Monica in '83 or '84 then the Dead Kennedys and it turned me into a punk kid instead of Adam and the Ants/New Wave music kid. I'm thankful for that part....Not many people can say they saw those 3 bands back when they were at their absolute best...

Can’t wait until the progress hits NC, I have no clue how we’ve made it this far without rediculous taxes, tent cities, droves of homeless people and streets full of used needles.

You think you've made it "far"?
Nope.

I don't think anything referencing America should be in the name. Well since most in California want Socialism then Venezuela is the direction it will head. Socialism is always fun until you run out of other peoples money.

This thread is full of so much fun. Have you watched this video yet?

Sweden: Lessons for America?

If you have not, I highly recommend it. Its about an hour watch but it will certainly help you understand the Nordic countries a little better.

So you're going with Calmerica?
Me, too.

But, seriously, thank your lucky stars for us and New York, and that we're not going anywhere, otherwise the rest of you would soon be living in Mad Max times.

Unfortunately, the U.S. version of Capitalism is run with such extreme that it has the possibility of leading to the downfall of mankind.

The problem when broken down to its root is pretty simple.

When you have something that is right and something that is wrong the Capitalist will almost always choose the option that is most profitable.

I think we would all be fine without California and New York. You obviously put far too much stock in those states. If you haven't notice there is a mass exodus in both of them.
