Post Thoughts on Topps 6 Star Wars sets for 2019...

So they dropped info on 6 sets today:
Chrome Legacy
Skywalker Saga
Journey To (10/4/19)
Masterwork 5
Stellar 3
Episode 9 Series 1 (12/20/19)

There's definitely improvements like adding original art sets to Stellar (probably with a price increase), screen-used relics finally and giveaway items like the Anovos helmet(s).

My main concern here is the only new content for Stellar and Masterwork will be Solo and Resistance and maybe Mandalorian or some Ep 9 images, assuming the Topps presentation was in order of release.

Additionally, they're selling the Skywalker Saga as telling Kylo's story as well, but if it drops before Ep 9 is releases in theaters, it will not tell that story and should be held until 2020.

I'm really hoping these aren't all 2019 sets because 6 at once is not what the market needs, but maybe the signer lists will be shaken up or they can get a lot of the signatures to be on card now that they will have the talent at Celebration.

Knew Topps taking a break from a Star Wars product nearly every month was too good to be true.

After the Solo fiasco last year, it's going to be buyer beware time again.

Seems like we have settled a bit into a rhythm with these sets. Consider that these sets will be released every year. We will also get official episode ix series one and series two sets for the movie. Probably a few small online only offerings as well. And as mentioned, any TV shows will most likely have one released. No shortage of Star Wars cards going forward. On screen costume cards are really the only thing that jumped out at me. I keep waiting on buying any Ridley, Driver, Boyega autos and they keep pumping them out.

Any news on new signers that may drive interest in these new sets?

Seriously, it's stunning to me that Topps really and truly STILL doesn't get it. 2019 will be eye opening for them.

Welcome to the new sports card world. From the manufacturer's point of view. If big name breakers and distributors are buying it all up, then that is positive feedback for Topps to keep the presses going.

Sports cards are now hit driven, lottery ticket, online breaks. Everyday box/case buyers are being priced out. Set collectors are all but dead and base cards are relegated to the trash heap. Topps is pumping out Baseball cards as well. Panini is doing the same with Football and Basketball.

All three are dropping fast, but TLJ S2 was the killer for Boyega with over 100 in that set and then Archives shortly after. At least Ridley and Driver were rare for a while, but to be honest I'd much rather see them all drop to like $100 because it'd be fun to own them but I don't value a signature more than $100, especially for people so young in their career and with a franchise this large.

An Episode 9 Billy Dee will sell well, as well as any new main cast additions to Ep 9.

Maybe we'll finally get Oscar Isaac?

To be honest I'm not too sure on who is all tied to Mandalorian, but Favreau autos would be awesome. It seems like either Topps or Disney isn't interested in director autos or cannot obtain them.

I'd hope Diego Luna would sign for a Cassian Andor show set.

Donald Faison would be cool from Resistance and I'm sure those actors will soon flood into sets like the Rebels cast did.

Most sound like garbage. Skywalker Legacy sounds like a warmed over version of Jedi Legacy, which has some interesting non auto hits in it.
Chrome Legacy is just finest.
Journey to Ep. 9 will be retail mass produced.

What's your three? Also, delay or never make?

I'd say skip Journey, Chrome (because of the higher price config) and Skywalker Saga (because it won't have all of Kylo's story)

The Journey sets were neat at first, but not every damn movie needs one.

They could've just released new cards for only the new projects with the old style versus rehashing every time.

We've got 10 months left in the year and they've announced these 6 sets... what do you think the other 4 will be?

I might buy some Masterwork and I might even be excited about it if the relics are screen used.
