2 local Walmart’s and 1 Target and none of them have any. The only baseball I could find was 2019 Series 1 (all stores had them) and one store had one Blaster of 2018 Series 2 and two hangers of Series 2.

That was it, and the card areas looked deserted at all stores except for Pokémon and Magic. Seems like I might be in a sports card void down here!

Would it be worth grabbing the Series 2 for Acuna hunting?

I opened 7 blasters last night. Trying to decide if I should get anymore or try any of the hanger boxes/packs.

This is my first time opening heritage at all (just re-starting baseball cards)

Hit a purple hot box that had the following purple's:

Hoskins, Torres, Votto, Buehler, Berrios, Marte, Cabrera and Haniger

Also......

A Wilson Contreras red auto /70!!!!!!!!

Also hit a french variation, a chrome /999 and a chrome refractor /540 (I think)

So..........stop, or try and get some more?

See, I don't get the 'they are so rare so they should sell for more'...they are numbered, there are essentially the same amount of them every year...so while you may actually have to rip more to obtain them, from a buyers perspective, there are the same amount of them as any other year.

Also, no retail has hit in my area (although there have been a few times in the past where someone simply cleaned them out before I saw any, usually when that happens there is a big hole where they were...unfortunately, the card section at my local target is about 4ft long total where it used to be about 12ft.)

Just be careful...Heritage retail can swing in a hurry. Between mostly last year and just a few this year, I have opened around 50 blasters, 20-30 hangers and about as many fat packs. I found collation to be flat out awful in 2018. I'd buy a group of 10 fat packs and 5 would be almost identical and the other 5 would be almost identical. Blasters were a little better. My list of retail pulls are as follows:

2 chromes (Lucroy and Hicks), 1 refractor (Banda), a Devers Jersey, and if I'm forgetting something, it's less important than these! I kept buying because I do like Heritage and thought that the odds would eventually produce something...my mistake obviously.

For nearly $1500 in product, that is unacceptable in my opinion. I hope this year is better for everyone--early returns show it might just be. But take the warning from someone who experienced the lowest low and understand that the same is possible--unless they fixed something.

I only tend to buy retail when I am building the set. Otherwise that $1500 would probably pay off more with hobby. I haven't bought any retail this year, just going for singles, and I know some are experiencing atrocious hobby breaks, but with that money I would go for hobby every time. Just my .02

None of my Walmart’s and Targets have any of these, and I’m not sure they ever will.

Is it okay to just buy them online or will those be different than the ones in the store?

I still want to buy the retail, because I only put together the set and do not care about the hits, so for $100 that a hobby box would get me I can get 5 blasters and end up with more packs. Plus with the current issues of some boxes/cases not being loaded out with SPs, I would rather not take the risk of getting none.

I checked a local WM and a local Target and nothing for either. But as I stated in another thread, they usually run about 3-4 weeks behind on stocking new product.

That said, most of what you guys are pulling in retail was better than my hobby box. I didn't get any Chrome, colors nor an auto. 1 Action, 8 SPs and the rest inserts. I might should've stuck with blasters once they come out.

I found some today at Walmart but a Meijer still did not have anything stocked yet. Best Card was a Kershaw Black Refractor.

I think Breaker Culture has some retail metrics that might help.

I think he's alluding to the fact that you have to open a significant amount of product to get them compared to years past thus, perceived "rarity" but I agree with you: They are the same number.

Absolutely! I think this forum is where I got the answer to how much retail/hobby differ. I am not a big product ripper but had 2018 circled for the last year or so when the rookie potential picture came more into focus. I had purchased all this product from various places and basically every time I passed it I would pick up a few more--mixed in with bigger purchases here and there. And I was nearly 100% skunked by base only (and the common base "inserts"). I'd read the forums--another black refractor here, gold refractor there, several autos, Action/error/color swap/throwbacks...I was seeing everyone pulling the cards I was "chasing." That led me to chase harder--but led to more of the same. At least I had a few stacks of PSA 10-quality cards of the stars and rookies. That and 3 full base sets.

I finally gave in and purchased the last 2018 HHN Hobby box from my local card store and walked away with a mini, an action, a jersey relic and a color swap--although those 4 card values were no where NEAR what I spent on the box, it was nice to see that pulling hits was possible!

If I had just purchased a single hobby case, I would be sitting in a much better position with the returns and saved a few hundred in total cost. But looking at the forums this year--it appears to be a bit different for retail odds. I bought 3 blasters last night from Target to just check out the new cards and...you guessed it...100% base...(aside from the candy lids that are about 1 per box. Lol). But some great cards are coming out of retail for 2019.

IF YOU BUY RETAIL, just know that it's common to go through long base only ruts (good for set building). And if you don't have the Hobby option at a card store, then maybe try to find sealed retail cases--or make larger purchases from the same stores. That might help your odds if you aren't a lucky person!

I joined the chase late last year and by then I think everything had been pack searched and weighed because the incentive is there when things carry so much value and the Ohtani auto was nuts last year.

So my rule is show up for freshly stocked retail, otherwise forget it. I don't trust anything that has been sitting and the pull results always back it up.

Wait, you’re saying three Target blasters each had a single non-base card in them?
Last year it was five inserts and two/three SPs in every blaster I bought. Surely they’re not pumping out 100% vanilla base blasters now?

Bought a 35 card 'hanger box' today. I was wondering which "packs" would hold the Player Story Booklets. Both the $6 rack pack / hanger pack (forget card total, not buying any more of this, don't care) and the $11 hanger box I bought advertise them on the box. (non-Wal-Mart, non-Target). But the blaster box did not.

Player Story Booklet is @ 1:297 on the hanger box.

I hit one Short Print, so maybe the little box was "Hot". Odds of hitting an SP are only officially 1:2 in those boxes.

So I guess that is saying if you purchase 70 cards for $22, you will get 2 inserts, 1 SP, and 67 normal base cards. Or in other words, about 33:1 regular card : Short Print. Maybe higher. But really, I suspect every hanger box will have one insert and one SP, actually, and 1:2 just covers the bases for a mistake collation.

Or, retail Short Prints cost $11. Each. 2-per-blaster would work the same, so would 1:2 packing in the $6 hanger packs. I have been looking forward to doing a set next year. Now, not so much.

Oh and all of the $6 rack packs had the cards all pushed up on the top, probably by someone looking for the Player Story Booklets. Even in my little town. I wanted my legit 297:1 shot at a booklet, so I picked the hanger box instead.

My top card was a Jesse Biddle. Should I take it with me to the ballpark?

Didn't pull the Neshek or Brewers NLCS cards I actually wanted. Oh well. Did pull a 3 card Astros Rookies card and I thought - the Astros have Rookies right now? Why?

The Yoan Moncada card sort of rocks a Powder Blue uniform on it - not a Photo Day picture. But you can't see much of it. Maybe an S2 White Sox card will show one of those too.

Always nice to shuffle through a stack of Heritage. These will have the most readable card backs for old people, for quite a while to come.
