Same familiar story...just venting.
So back in 2013 I purchased 3 Ozzie Smith Momentous Materials relic autos. These were redemptions but I figured I wouldn't have much of an issue since Ozzie signs all the time. Most of my PC is also Ozzie cards so I was pretty excited I would have 3 of the 10 of these. Fast forward to February 2019 and I receive a package from Topps. Was it my 3 Momentous Material relic autos from 6 years ago? Nope, it was 3 Joe Mauer Five Star autos numbered to 150. I am sending these back for sure. Topps has screwed my multiple times on replacements (was due a Matt Holliday auto relic book but received a couple no name autos) but not taking it this time. Here is the letter I sent back with the replacements. Dear Topps, I recently received a package that included three baseball cards as replacements for redemptions that I had entered back in 2013. The cards I received were three Joe Mauer autographs from your Five Star product line. Each Mauer was serial numbered to 150. These Mauer cards were to replace the three outstanding redemptions I had for 2013 Ozzie Smith Momentous Material Jumbo Relic Autographs. Each of these Momentous Material Jumbo Relic Autos were to be serial numbered out of 10. I am returning these Mauer autographs for multiple reasons. First, I reject that a Joe Mauer card is a suitable replacement for an Ozzie Smith card. While Mauer was a good catcher, Smith is a Hall of Fame shortstop, considered one of the best to ever play the game. My second reason is based on the serial numbering. Although both Five Star and Museum Collection are both considered high-end products, there is no way a card numbered out of 150 is equal to a card numbered out of 10. My Third reason for returning the cards is because Joe Mauer cards do not fit into my collection. Since baseball card collecting is a hobby, many people’s collections tend to be more narrow focused and specific. My collection is mostly Ozzie Smith cards. For this reason, the Mauer cards really have no value to me. Contrast that with the cost of the Smith cards when I entered them into your system. When I entered the cards into your system back in 2013, the going rate was over $100. My final reason for returning the cards is based on the fact that I reject the Topps Company was never able to produce them in the first place. While I understand that these cards were to be patch autographs, there have been numerous Ozzie Smith autographs containing patches produced by the Topps Company since 2013. With this letter I am including examples of those cards. I understand sometimes cards are unable to be produced. In November 2017 I received a replacement for a Five Star Jumbo Relic Book of Matt Holliday. The cards I received were no where near the value of the one they were to replace. After doing some research, I found that Holliday had not signed any Topps cards in quite a while. This is not the case with Ozzie Smith. He signs often and my accompanying document shows that Topps has had access to the patches needed to produce the card. I sincerely hope that these 2013 Museum Collection Momentous Material Jumbo Relic Autographs of Ozzie Smith are able to be made by Topps. If they are not, I expect to receive a similarly numbered Ozzie Smith cards, preferably patch autographs, as replacements; or something else that fits into my personal collection. If you have any questions for me, I can be contacted by email at my email address listed on my Topps redemption account. Thank you for your time and help

I hope they send you something back. We had a customer that did this and did it politely four years later he is still waiting for anything, Topps Reps said they dont advise sending back and have no idea where his cards are.

They probably gave your Ozzie's to someone else as redemption replacements...

How does Topps handle returned replacements? Not sure this will end well.

They didn’t ask him to send it back, so they aren’t required to send him anything now and can repack out his Mauers

I would call them and speak to a manager and explain. If they fight it I would tell them you will be sure to share your story on every message board and forum. Surely the will make it right, they don’t don’t want the bad publicity especially when they are wrong!! My 2 cents.

They just had their second data breach in three years, they already have plenty of bad PR, they just don't give a crap about customers. That simple. They print money, people buy. Why care.

I would not send the cards back. Call them and talk to someone. Just sending them will never get a replacement

Send them back today with signature confirmation. A handful of years ago Topps sent a replacement for a 2011 Marquee that was junk. Sent it back and got a Chipper Jones auto from a flagship insert instead. Hopefully this goes as well as that did. I will update when I know more.

Got my package from Topps last Friday. This time they sent me this:
https://imgur.com/ebVCaRn While I'm glad to get an Ozzie auto, I'm not sure how to feel about replacing 3 cards with 1. They also replaced a bunch of Jon Jay autos with these: https://imgur.com/0pFVLMB https://imgur.com/I6OfyQu https://imgur.com/pdG7kYf

Send any correspondence via certified mail with return receipt requested (almost as good as proof of service).
I wouldn't expect anything. Until people start filing suit, this redemption nonsense will continue unabated. This redemption/replacement garbage and utter disregard for the common consumer is all part of the reason I'm done buying wax (in addition to the exorbitant prices, insane print runs, shoddy quality control, and horrific ROI).

Well at least its a 1/1 Ozzie auto that you collect. IT just sucks they slapped a sticker on there and its a printing plate.
Just learn the lesson and never redeem another redemption card no matter how much you want the card, because chances are, it wont be made and youll be screwed again. F*%& Topps |

I'm sitting on about 6 Yadier Molina 2018 Topps Dynasty Auto patches. I've recently seen 2019 Topps series 1 autos of Yadier Molina on eBay and I'm wondering what the holdup would be with these cards.
Either they were not made, not signed, etc doesn't make sense since his auto is floating around on a later dated product. i'm starting to get worried and what I don't understand and what really confuses me is the price point on a box of Topps Dynasty. From the stories I have been reading the replacements never seem to match the value of the initial redemption. But think about this... if you google search a box of 2018 Topps dynasty the box (and 1 card per box) will set you back $375.00. If i buy one box and pull a Yadi redemption and then receive a Joe Mauer 5 star auto /150, Topps is basically stealing money. Its almost absurd that this process even exists and the stories that go with it that there is no accountability. If I bought 5 boxes of Topps dynasty for $1500 and there were 5 redemption cards, i basically bought nothing. I just paid for a product where now I might have to wait 6 years to receive a replacement. I don't understand. |
