Almost Ryan Howard-esque....and he was a mess just two years after his monster contract.

I'm surprised by the length of the deal. Going to be a LOT of superstars siding with the owners come negotiation time!!!! "Comon guys, what's a little less money, don't you love the game of baseball!"

Crazy, these guys signing with teams that won't win a title. All about the money, cool for them.. but if it were me I would have wanted a title. Manny and Bryce won't get one on the teams they signed with.

premature to say that. no reason the phillies can't make a run at a title.

Harper's a lot closer to a title than Machado in San Diego. I actually think the Phillies made some nice moves this off-season, but after Nola, I have no idea how good their starting pitching is. |

13 years, 330 Million dollars for a guy that didn't even finish in the top 50 in WAR last season. Since his MVP season, he only has the 34th best WAR in the league. This has to be the most overvalued contract in the history of American Sports. I guess all it takes is a ton of hype at a young age, a marketable look and one really good season and you can somehow trick people into thinking you're one of the best players in baseball.
Oh yea, and he's never even been out of the NLDS and has a career .211 postseason batting average. Have fun with that contract Phillies. |

Hopefully this takes Philly out of the Trout race.
And the Nats 10/300 seems better than this offer |

If there is one person that is almost as happy about this as Harper, it's Albert Pujols. In a few years he will no longer be the poster child for "worst deal ever".

same time im sure it sounded pretty obvious that the Astros were not gonna win a WS anytime soon we have no clue what will come...saying philly is obviously never going to win just sounds stupid to me to be honest...they have some top tier talent sprinkled in throughout the roster....could use another SP or two...but that can happen at any time... its not like he went to like the Tigers who are nowhere near competing and dont have an overly great system(some nice arms but nothing crazy) (yea im a tigers fan...we are insanely far from competing again at this point)...or like the Pirates or whatever...he went to a team that is on the rise with young talent...and made a couple other moves to add upgrades on offense already this offseason.... as for the Padres...that will likely depend on if a bunch of their prospects pan out and pan out quickly---kind of like the cubs did...add money free agents along the way with the young guys who start producing and they are for sure in the mix... |
