Well prices are def spiking. I have this up in the BST forum as trade bait and i'm shocked at the cash offers i'm getting. I don't even know what to think it's worth at this point.

I remember you having this a while ago. In all my years collecting Giannis (even after I stopped buying), I never once saw this card.

I’ve almost sold it or traded it a few times now. But for whatever reason they’ve never gone through. Kinda glad right about now considering all the other Giannis I’ve sold.

I did a few quick Google searches on the product but couldn't find anything that states the odds of pulling these.

I never busted this product and haven't watched any breaks (probably would be the best route to go to figure out how these fall in a box or case) but Cardboard Connection states that boxes were 14 packs and had 6 Prizms total (including color/#'d) so the odds of hitting a Prizm of a given player out of a box/case are probably pretty high
Thank you for your reply and the info.

Hey all, I get the continued rise in Giannis Rookie prices (MVP race looking good, Bucks w/ best record and looking very promising etc.)

However, is there a rhyme and reason as to why his Prizm rookie cards are at the price points they are, where other contemporaries in his class (aka Anthony Davis, Embiid, Kawhi) have very pedestrian Prizm Rookie prices compared to their other higher end rookies? Basically, the proportion seems different.

This isn't meant to be a knock or anything, but an honest question. Is the 2013 Prizm set in lower production than the 2012, 2014 Prizm sets?

Perhaps this can be compared to Lebron's Topps Chrome Rookie - Very plentiful card, tons of 10s out there, yet still pricey. I assume due to straight out popularity of the issue.

Curious to hear other's thoughts or insight.

Simply put. He has the "IT" factor.

He is humble. He looks like he has fun playing the game.

He has an awesome name...including a cool nickname.

Many think he is the next face of the NBA.

Completely agree.

I guess I just meant that his Prizm, though somewhat plentiful, gets a lot of respect and price push (PSA 10's closing in on $300 now). Ive noticed other stars that have been "hot" at different points experience significant rookie card attention, but their Prizm rookie cards still seemingly trail behind. Maybe I'm off base on this?

A good example is Dwyane Wade's TC vs LeBron's TC. Wade is a 1st ballot HOF with 3 titles, yet his sells for 1/25 of what LeBron sells for. Once buyers lock into a player their cards balloon compared to their contemporaries.

This comparison makes sense. Especially if he is to be "chosen" as the new face of the league.

2012 Prizm was the first... double rookie class..AD, Kyrie, Kawhi etc.

2013 didnt have a great rookie class so many 2013 products flew under the radar. Also 2013 Silver Prizms were limited and not easy to hit. It's been estimated that 300-350 Silver Prizms were made in 2013.

Here are the PSA numbers from 2012-2017... Decent in 2012... down in 2013 and 2014... trend upwards from 2015 til now

There was a similar discussion on the baseball board about Mike Trout 2011 Update PSA 10 Rookie Cards.

Currently... 3,927 exist and they routinely sell for $700 now.

Topps recently estimated that 6,300,000 baseball card collectors exist. If only 1% of those collectors want a PSA 10 Trout Update... 3,927 clearly aren't enough.

Same applies here. Currenly 1,429 PSA 10 Prizm Giannis exist if only 1% of basketball collectors want one... That won't be enough either. Causing prices to rise.

This seems like an apt comparison. I’ve seen Buy It Now prices go from $255 to $300 in these past two days. I don’t know if I should buy in or see if these go back down to $250 in a few months during the off-season.

If they make the finals or Giannis wins MVP tho...it’s all over for these cards

MVP hype > actually winning the award.

i think most collectors are already pricing in an mvp win.

Now if they make the Finals and put up a fight..... there's your bump.

Hype can be a crazy thing... Just a few years ago at this time Steph Curry base Topps rookies were outselling Topps Chrome Lebrons by a lot.

BGS 9 Silver sold for $1,900!! - https://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-14-Pan...orig_cvip=true

Making that 9.5 for $2,300 look like a steal.

The MVP hype is only beginning. The odds were in Hardens favor until just a couple days ago. Now that they are in Giannis favor... his stuff will see a bump.

Currently.. the MVP is Giannis' to lose. He currently has a 71% chance of winning.

Yes. I think there is still room to run.

But at some point the MVP hype will peak, assuming he continues to stay ahead. By the time he wins the award it will be the post season, focus will be on the draft, free agency and whoever wins the Championship.

Hype will start again next season.

Yep. If he continues to play like he has been and the Bucks keep winning. He will continue to see a bump.

Prizm Silvers will continue to go up because it's so limited and Silver Prizms are SOO popular. I believe I saw nearly 1,000 Silver Luka's have been graded.. in 3 months... In 5 years only 230 or so Giannis have been graded....the last 9.5 was graded July 18th... over 7 months ago.

Silver Prizms will be CRAZY.

That's a pretty stat. I'm trying to figure out how much room these have left. Lebron equivalent (2003 Topps Chrome Refractor PSA 10) is about $5,500. Curry 2009 Topps Chrome PSA 10 (#/500) is around $6,500 - $7,000. There is room for Giannis, but $3,000 is pretty high already. Took Lebron about 14 years to get there. I am wondering if the green & red are the way to go. I'm ready to pull the trigger on something, just not sure what.

LeBron Chrome Refractors - 1,407 total graded - Graded Giannis Silver Prizms 15.85% of LeBron's Graded Refractors

Maybe 2003 Topps Chrome Black Refractors /500 might be a better comparison. A BGS 9 recently sold for $5,000... can't find a 9.5 or PSA 10... I'm guessing they do $8000+?

2003 Topps Chrome Xfractors are /220 and a PSA 9 recently sold for $7,700.

Silver Prizms fall in between at roughly 300-350. If all the stars align .... I wouldn't be shocked to see nicely graded BGS 9.5s (Quad 9.5 and better) and PSA 10s selling for $6,000-7,000 - This is MVP and a strong run through the playoffs

Who knows, it could happen.

Curry Topps rookies hit $600, after all.

But if it does hit those heights, that would probably be the time to sell, then pick up for half the price later on.

Yeah, every few years something like this happens with a player; things go berserk and the question is always, do I get in now or am I too late? Traditional wisdom says if you're just now catching on, you're already too late, but I remember saying that about Curry when he hit $300, then $400, then $500, then $600. I said the same thing about Lebron Chrome PSA 10's when they were at $300, then $400, then $500, now $1,000.

There is the real possibility Giannis Prizm PSA 10's could be a bargain at $250 right now, and also a real chance their ceiling is very near (full disclosure, I have a lot of these). He absolutely has to continue his run AND show up in the playoffs in a major way for this to continue. I will say this - whatever I decide to do, the opposite will be the better choice, historically speaking
