Nothing more 90's than doing it doggystyle so you both can watch X-Files.

Aint that the truth! Funnily enough, I've been listening to Live the past week or so after not listening to them for years. Great band.

There was some amazing music in the 90's, though I may be biased as I turned 10 in 1990 so its my decade for music. I discovered Pearl Jam and never looked back. Some wonderful grunge bands - Soundgarden, AIC, Screaming Trees.... I could happily spend the rest of my life just listening to those.
But they all had some success. One of the bands that I thought deserved more (at least in the UK where noone seemed to know them) were Candlebox. 'Far Behind' is so good!

I wore out that album when I was a teenager. Far Behind, You, Cover Me, Change. That takes me back!

As was often the case for a hot new hitmaker, they were invited onto "Saturday Night Live" to perform the single, and they did so, perfectly. The problem was, you had to do two songs on that show. As soon as they struck up the band for the second number, and the singer sang it in the exact same baritone fashion as before, it was immediately understood they were just a novelty band, and were basically never heard from outside of Canada again. Still, that is a great song.

I can't believe this is actually a thread. Fuel is one of my favorite bands and is one the most underrated bands of all time.

This Fuel love fest needs to include the only band named "Fuel" that I've ever had in my collection. Such a great record if you're into first wave emo, a la early Fugazi. #RIPsarah

underrated
adjective US /ˌʌn·dərˈreɪt̬·əd/

having more importance, value, skill, power, etc., than people recognize

Do Billboard #1 records, multi-platinum records, Grammy nominations, Grammy wins, etc. classify as "underrated?"

It's like saying that Elvis and the Beatles were underrated.

I will second Blind Melon and Filter.

But DMB and RHCP? They were two of the biggest most popular bands of the 90s

Did Celine Dion not make it because she’s not a band?

Few of those are underrated, which is the theme of the thread.

one of my favorite albums from the 90's, The Refreshments: Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy

fun fact: they did the King of the Hill theme song

I actually once heard that the band was calling themselves "Live" (as in: 'and let die') ... but once they were booked for shows and everyone pronounced it wrong they just went with it.

Agree 100%- Junta, Lawn Boy, Nectar and Rift are all classics in my mind. Interesting, occasionally brilliant but sometimes skip-worthy tunes on each album.
Rift is an amazing concept album. Textures are rich and imagery for days.

We are seemingly in the minority here... furthur cementing the underrated status. ... I've listened to Nectar a ton but I'm actually now trying to learn a few songs from Rift on guitar so its going to be heavy listening for me.

The solo in "Horn" is just gorgeous. Good luck my friend.

This thread needs more Clutch in it. All of the threads on BO do, for that matter.

uhhh... these bands toured with lollapalooza? I mean, Lollapalooza was THE festival of the 90s so maybe its how they got heard but thier fame was hardly limited to the audience that showed up for those 2 day festivals / later tours.

Blind Melon everybody knew "no rain" EVERYBODY
Dave Mathews Band all over the radio
Filter everybody knew "nice shot" EVERYBODY
Korn all over radio and mtv, not to mention ADIDAS was one of the most overrated songs of the decade
Lenny Kravitz all over radio and mtv
Limp Bizkit all over radio, mtv, and brittney spears
Penny wise
Primus of beavis and butthead fame?
chili Peppers all over radio and mtv
Social Distortion
Sublime
The Urge
311 all over radio and mtv
STP all over radio and mtv

Sublime <<<----???
The Urge <<<----???
311 all over radio and mtv <<<----Didnt listen to FM radio or watch MTV in the 90's
STP all over radio and mtv <<<---- I only know these guys because I saw them on a tour with the Butthole Surfers in a remote town in Ohio. I was only there because a friend asked me to go with him so he could drink and I was the DD.
See Bolded above...
I did see the Screaming Trees with White Zombie sometime mid 1996-97 at a local Venue (Bogarts). Weird Duo to be on tour since one band was pretty much alternative and the other was industrial metal mix.

Always speaking the truth Father Eric...but I wouldn't classify Clutch as a 90s band.

And clearly, as this thread shows, to be an underrated 90s band, you need at least a top-10 Billboard single and possibly a Grammy nomination.
