Legendary. I wish I could go back to that time. I would have appreciated the music so much more. It's gone forever and never coming back.

I'm a big Creed fan even though tons of people get annoyed by them.

I always thought Fuel was a bit OVER rated, to be honest.

I agree that Our Lady Peace was one of the most under rated bands of the 90s. Not the best, but very under rated.

Two of my favorite bands of the 90s that uave pretty much gone down as one hit wonders are The Cranberries and Fiona Apple. I coukd listen to either for hours. Bith ate well known, but neither ever got much notariety after thier first album.

AIC under rated? They were amazing, for sure, but im pretty sure they got thier due respect as well.

Nixons? Loved that album with Sister, but did they ever put out anything else? Also now i need to listen to that album.

I'd like to add Static-X Wisconsin Death Trip to the discussion. "Push It" is on my workout playlist in 2019.

If you can tolerate that genre, static-x has some great tracks. Was never mainstream enough to get much airtime, but I dont think they were underrated among the fanbase of the genre.

That was apparently the last-ever time AIC performed Nutshell live.

Chills me to the bone.

Like Layne knew....

It is gone now, but we can savor and appreciate it now.

Skin Yard/Gruntruck are criminally underrated in the grunge genre. To me, Ben McMillan had the prototypical grunge voice.

Grotus is another band from that era that signed a major label deal, but seemingly revolted themselves for signing it.

+++ EDIT +++

Of note, it's interesting to see some of the era's most popular bands mentioned in this thread as possibly "underrated."

Hard to draw a line, the way I look at it is no matter how popular a band was you thought they should have been more popular.

There was a whole movie made to try to determine why Fishbone was so underrated.

Fun Lovin Criminals had some good albums, and put on a great live show. Was sad they were only treated as a novelty act.

The same could be said for Lucious Jackson & Presidents.

I feel that Live did get a lot of love, but it also felt like it was never enough.

Phish, for as big a touring act as they were in the 90s, were extremely underrated (by the mainstream) throughout most of the decade, although they have been recognized more and more over the years for their longevity and continued massive live appeal. Their studio work from the late 80s and most of the 90's remains underrated IMO.

Cake is another band that was maybe underrated in the 90s when they were peaking creatively but grew in the public consciousness over time.

Phish’s first 5? Albums were inconsistent and wacky in an almost Zappa way. Cake is a good one. Big head todd too

I know what you mean although a lot of their best music did come from that era... in my view at least Junta is a masterpiece, inconsistent on other albums yes but still better than they are credited to be. Plenty of bands put out albums with 2-3 good songs and yet are considered 'great' bands.

Two words: MAZZY. STAR. 'So Tonight That I Might See' might be my all-time favorite album by any band that isn't named Rush, Queen, Metallica, or Green Day.

A close second would be Marcy Playground. Their self-titled album is fantastic. The huge single they had might be the 8th or 9th best song of the 12 on that disc.

I used to dig on some Mazzy Star back in the day. The lead singer has sort of an earthy ethereal voice like Amy Lee. They are obvious different in their deliveries but I get the same kind of reaction from them, like where did that voice come from?
