Harper could’ve just spent the entire offseason just traveling the US meeting with all 29 clubs. I mean, who hasn’t he met with lol.

Seems like the Giants are going to give him a short term deal with a high AAV, lets see if he bites.

Too bad Strickland isn't on the Giants anymore

I can’t see something like this working unless it’s like 4/160-170.

Giants outlook isn’t as bright as Philly, LA, Washington or even CWS. This is Boras being Boras.

My gut tells me Harper and Manny are going to hold out till deep into spring and then both have slow starts.

For the love of the game, please keep Trout out of Philly. The Philly fans do not deserve him. And Trout does not deserve to have 29 other fan bases root against him. He may lose while playing for the Angels, but at least people can root for him. That will end if he goes to Philly.

Not all Philly fans are that bad.

I look forward to very competitive N.L. East

Good luck with your Braves.

Yeah, no one outside of Philly likes Philly. At least the Angels are the lovable losers of the league.

Well Spring Training is officially here and roughly 100 unsigned free agents remain................

I really think the Agents are taking this too far trying to prove points to the teams. Offers are out there..... can't wait to see whose seasons go down the drain due to reporting late to camp/signing late... we saw it hurt different players last season, and it will undoubtedly happen again this season. Also only 3 players have received contracts of 4 or more years (Corbin (6), Pollock (5), Eovaldi (4)) this offseason. Everything else has been 3 or less.

http://www.espn.com/mlb/freeagents/_/type/available

List featuring.... Bartolo Colon (GOAT), Matt Davidson, Jake Diekman, Lucas Duda, Zach Duke, AJ Ellis, Alcides Escobar, Logan Forsythe, Yovani Gallardo, Evan Gattis, Carlos Gomez, Carlos Gonzalez, Marwin Gonzalez, Gio Gonzalez, Bryce Harper, Josh Harrison, Chase Headley, Adeiny Hechavarria, Jose Iglesias, Adam Jones, Dallas Keuchel, Craig Kimbrel, Manny Machado, Ryan Madson, Martin Maldonado, Cameron Maybin, Gerardo Parra, Jose Reyes, Sergio Romo, Yangervis Solarte, Denard Span, Matt Wieters

Seth ... any idea as to how many remained at this point last year (two years ago /5/10)? It sounds like a lot but I have no way of knowing if this is out of the norm.

I'm sure a vast majority of names on the FA list are old and outdated and will fill in as injuries pile up (or just clubhouse guys) ... but I do find it surprising that the big four are still unsigned. (Harper, Machado, Kimbrel, Keuchel). Stupid on agents side IMHO ... position only gets weaker by the day.

a lot of the lower tier guys are likely hosed. No one wants to pay 5-10 mill for a 1-2 WAR guy, they would rather bring a guy up from AAA and hope they catch lightning in a bottle.

Exactly.

And as much as the journalists may like to whine about it, that's actually a very sensible strategy.

This is the key point I think. Teams start to take back the control of the negotiations now, because they can just say "Here's our best offer, take it or sit out the season and get offered even less next year"

It's just crazy to me.

So I've read several stories about how Machado, Harper, Kimbrel, are the greatest things since sliced bread and the teams should just drive Brinks trucks up to their houses. I don't get it, I mean, yes these guys are amazing players but why would any reporter be pushing stories like this? "Just pay them already!!!" over and over again. What's the angle from these reporters? Are they just hoping they'll get more interviews form the players later on down the line if they keep pushing this narrative?

Only 8 names on that list are 100% deserving of a major league deal. You could make a case for a few more, but pretty much everyone other than the top 8 are replaceable with AAA guys

You left out rooting for your local team and not the collective interests of the players union makes you a “billionaire apologist”

I know it's nitpicking, but pretty sure Davidson and Duke signed. Davidson minor league 2-way deal (pitch and hit) with someone, and Duke with the.. Reds?

I read a story the other day about how in various academies, etc., all around Latin America, and of course in plenty of places in America, teenagers now swing wifi connected bats - a little sensor in the bat knob transmits a signal to record their bat speed. Machines find the best players now, not human Scouts.

MLB players will play to their peak, be allowed to stick around for a year, or two at most, when they fall off that peak, and then they are done. NEXT.

Reminds me of that annoying Correa and Harold Reynolds commercial.

He hit .239 last year.

Aaaaand maybe 5, 6 guys on that list are worthy of more than a minor league deal.
