I personally prefer the Gold signature series but suspect most people would prefer the Silver base just for the fact that they're actually numbered and the art isn't partially blocked by the signature.

In my opinion, gold is better because the odds are higher. Gold and What If have the same odds.
Base vs. Gold & What If: - Tier 1: 1:1.83 (~1 per pack) vs 1:2.43 (~1 per 2 packs) - Tier 2: 1:3.24 (~1 per 3 packs) vs 1:4.87 (~1 per 5 packs) - Tier 3: 1:7.30 (~2 per box) vs 1:14.62 (~1 per box) - Tier 4: 1:147.39 (~1 per case) vs 1:291.84 (~1 per 2 cases) Check out the group break about 2 years ago for actual cards pulled and posted to verify the odds. |

If we are talking general desirability by the collecting community, they seem to be going for similar amounts on ebay, if anything the base with the slight edge (talking about 1-81 cards). The 82-90 cards are definite edge to regular base.
I think this stems from people wanting to have just a regular set of 2016 Marvel Masterpieces, and not wanting to get into all the variants (which we all know, is quite expensive with this release if going for everything). But imagine someone making a collection of Marvel Masterpieces sets through the years- they will probably want just a normal base set. I think what hurts the sigs a little also is the way they formatted them on the card (2018 did a better job with the thinner signature).
