I noticed all fifthdown's listings use the best offer option. The kind of person who doesn't negotiate when buying a 250k card is not the type who negotiates when selling a 1k card. That alone is a major red flag.

Then we have the fact that he lives in close proximity to Eric. And Eric was acting as his personal broker.

I'm having a very hard time believing there's not a lot more to this story...

I definitely think there’s more to it. But as 6celtics just said, apparently Eric no longer lives in Boston and another member said fifthdown may not live in mass anymore although that’s what his eBay says. They have both at least lived in the same area at one point or another.

I did a trade with Eric I want to say summer of 2017 but don’t crucify me if that’s the wrong timeline but it was before a Chicago National so I think that’s it. Point being, he was about to move then from Mass to Pittsburgh. It was mentioned because of us getting the deal done and shipped.

Who would actually do a 250k deal for 1 card through eBay and eat all those fees? So these guys are friends but they make a huge sale like that on eBay for all to see? Seems bs to me.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to fly out and hand deliver it?

No, I traded a 7 for 1

It was an 86 Fleer Jordan .5 from Pristine. I trust my eyes on that card and it had no signs of alteration.

I’m concerned for everyone and the hobby in general with all of this.

But as I’ve told you many times in our grading debates I advocate for people to not blindly trust any company or 3rd party but to do their own research on a particular set/card if they are worried.

I love graded cards but neither bgs nor psa have been very good with stopping trimming.

They both grade trimmed cards and kick cards as trimmed that are straight out of the pack or in star company’s case the bag.

This is something I’ve thought a lot about. I don’t know what to do about it.

Feedback for the seller of the 250k Lebron was also left the same day that the cashier’s check was written. I guess 5th could have went to his bank, got the cashier’s check, met up with the seller, went to the sellers bank and cashed the check. And the seller trusted this buyer he didn’t know so much that he handed over the card before the check even cleared.

And even back then when we did it and I had no reason to worry about Eric whatsoever, I use universal precautions and I went over the card with a fine tooth comb and I had a friend who is a member here also look at it closely and we both felt comfortable with it. Otherwise I wouldn’t have done it.

We all need to help protect each other with graded stuff much like the fakes thread.

That’s the best thing about this forum....information from people with specialized skill sets.

Court docs do not name the Sender/Receiver or shipping details of the package at all. Ebitz got $1k restitution for the cards that were not recovered. His insurance company got $9k+. Pretty slim pickings there.

Yeah, I read through some of the transcripts. Where they plead and it didn’t go to trial, there’s not the info I was wanting.

No, I have stated that nowhere. You're a great resource for how auctions work and spotting manipulation, but you straw man every single argument. No one wants trimmed cards. No one wants altered cards or fake autos. No one wants to pay 3 to 5 times for them. EVERYONE wants available cards. Eric has them. Eric is very few degrees of separation from any of these people whenever they enter the hobby.

Eric is a few months away from getting anally penetrated in federal prison.

Vulgar imagery aside, I'm not a lawyer. I couldn't begin to speculate on how this is legally viewed. These cards aren't for sale, currently. I believe they were going to be for sale eventually because that's what Eric does. He sells cards. These could be legally viewed as personal property and altering personal property isn't illegal.

There’s a reason the cards were altered. Were waiting on buyers to come forward with proof of buying altered cards. But yes, if he hasn’t sold anything that he has altered or knew was altered, he hasn’t done anything criminal.
