I thought about that too. They can't do too many superstars this early. Gotta think next week will be a pitcher or 2.

If they do want to give players their jersey numbers, they'll have only the next 32 weeks to do it. Obviously Jeter isn't getting #2, but besides Robinson at 42 and Mantle at 7 mentioned above, who would you like to see get their own number? I think Nolan Ryan at 34 would be nice.

Unbreakable records are also cool to honor, so Nolan would be good at 7, too, but I do hope The Mick gets that. #511 would be great for Cy Young and they can certainly give Ty Cobb #366, DiMaggio #56, and so on. On retired players, would it be HOFers only? If not, how would they decide on the uniform to depict for someone who played for a lot of teams? My collection will be somewhat patchwork, but I imagine I'll end up with a lot of these this first year.

Not sure if this has been discussed here...thoughts on the set? Anyone going after it?

It's basically a set that has no end. It starts with card #1 and will continue on forever.

I like the idea but I wish they weren’t doing it every week. I think that makes it too expensive. I always think it’s silly to promote as going on forever because as soon as it’s not profitable it will end. Better than Topps Now though.

Sportscasters were going to go on forever presumably as well. Topps has the history and name recognition going for them, but I think the living set will die eventually. $5 a card seems like a lot, but Topps Now seemed to make that "buy as you" go theme work. Sounds like it will work the same way, print only as many as were purchased that prior time frame. You'll never know when a card will have a poor reception and thus a smaller print run and set builders are stuck buying every card regardless, just to maintain the set.

Not a fan of the idea in general, but it helps that I don't buy packs or build sets anymore, so I have no interest in a "set" like this.

And what is up with the sellers selling cards on ebay for $5.25 with free shipping?? Why??!!??!! By my calculations, the cheapest you can get these through Topps is $3.75 before shipping cost. Paypal fees are $.45.. $.47 to ebay... $.52 to ship. Is all of that worth the 6 cents you make per card (if you somehow are getting free shipping from Topps)? Am I missing something here? Why do you cut yourself so low when you don't have to?? I will never understand this way of thinking. Someone please help me understand.

I like the idea as long as they don't start incorporating variations, chrome, 1/1, etc. Let the product stand alone.

We just know that special variations and auto cards will be handed out at special events, so I don't think they will let it stand alone.

Living set does not help you get Topps Now platinum.

It appears that Topps limits the number of cards you can buy

Rewards points...yes, I suppose so (never receive any) but from what I was told, TBT, On-Demand and other product spending dose not get you credit towards Now Platinum Status. The more you know...

I wish I had the time of some of these folks. 100+ PWEs is not going to be fun when he sees just how many he has to do. Boggles my mind. Why not atleast try and make a buck per??

Rant over.

Would be cool if they randomly gave out the original art to someone who buys the card.

So a single person can buy up to 10,000 of any individual card? Here's how I see this playing out:

1) People buy hoards of the cards of popular players, leaving little rarity/scarcity for the players who have strong PC markets.

2) People buy fewer of the cards of the non-popular players, leaving more rarity/scarcity, but without a real market because very few people PC these types of players.

It seems like the only time it would be a reasonable deal is if it's a rookie card of a guy who transitions from being a non-popular player to a popular player after his card has already been made/closed for additional sales (and given the amount of prospecting involved with minor league guys these days, it seems like this would be a rare occurrence).

They seem to be counting on set builders to carry the product. I don't have a clear read around what % of the hobby is made up of set collectors though.

It's almost like the best case scenario for consumers would be for it to flop, creating some rarity/scarcity with the cards of the popular players, but even then, you're having to hope for a change of sentiment in the future regarding the set.

Just trying to provide further proof that this card is more of a $30 card than it is $10. The cheap ones after presale won’t last long. Don’t expect second to shift it either too much. Just my opinion, man

I just ordered 100. Worst case scenario I break even (I think). Kind of sucks we don't get credit towards Platinum.

I don’t think about that when I order. Maybe I’m in minority there. I’d still buy if there wasn’t a loyalty program. If they wipe out Plat next year I’ll still be here.
