Default Transcendent Judge 1/1 History Cards

What is the general consensus? They're finishing between $2-3K on eBay with a bunch listed around $10k. Are these good long-term investments around $2-3k or are they really a niche product that will have limited appeal in the future?

I think they will be solid, especially the ones from years that are really sought, the 1952, 53, 86 etc.

They'll have appeal as long as Judge remains a top-quality slugger on the Yankees, but keep in mind that nothing is prohibiting Topps from making similar cards and including them in a future release, thus diluting the value of the "1/1" designation.

For example, Judge could have cards in future releases of Archives or Heritage that have virtually identical designs as the 1/1 cards from Transcendent.

Kris Bryant's started off selling at a similar value last year and dipped to below $1000 after the event happened

I totally get that Topps can print another whole run of Judge cards but these will always be the only ones with the RC logo =)

There's one ending in an hour currently less than $900 but the seller never listed the year 2017 nor the year 1995. I think it's a heck of a bargain if anyone is into these.

I think these are a solid investment especially for Judge since his are considered RC's and have the logo. If he has a great career or even another year like last then they could do very well. There are just so many 1/1's out there for Judge but these seem to be truly unique.

Now with that being said Topps is including 1/1 game used patch cards (from a game Judge homered in) in the same format (87 different cards) into swag bags at the Transcendent party. Where do people value these in comparison to the auto version?

I'd MUCH rather one without a patch, personally.

Look at the trajectory of the Bryants, both the auto cards and the non-auto versions given out at the party. They are wonderful cards and I absolutely love them and have a lot of them (non-auto versions), but the prices have gone way down in the last year, esp for the non-auto versions from the party.

When the party Bryant cards came out last January, the most desireable singles (largely ‘50s and 60s styles) were going raw for $100-200 per card, and some of the more desireable auto versions were selling for 5-figure sums (and I think someone was at one point asking $35,000 for the auto 1952 style). Full sets of the party non-auto versions peaked at around $5200 very briefly in the couple of weeks after the party.

Don’t know how the auto versions are today, but the non-auto versions are about 30-40% of original highs but now for graded versions, with raw versions sometimes going for less than 20% of initial highs.

I think these cards have great long-term potential, but in the next year or two, the trajectory of the Judges will probably also be way down from where they initially start. Yes, Judge is way hotter now, but Bryant was scorching hot a year ago in his own right. Unless Judge is even better next year than in 2017, I would expect these to slump shorter term, esp bc more sets and cards this year than with the Bryants and this set is no longer a novel thing like it was last year.

Yes, the Judges are RCs and the Bryants weren’t, but there has also been an insane over-saturation of Judge RCs this year, which I think will temper that effect a bit.

I’m hoping these will get closer to the $3000 range once people stop running auctions.

Topps will continue to devalue autos(outside of first BC auto) by printing mass quantities and numerous 1/1’s. You already see it happening. These have nowhere to go but down.

Anyone know where to find pictures of all these history cards? Would be cool to see them all side by side.

Just look on eBay a few days after the party. There will be quite a number of sets broken up (unless it’s imperative to you to see the auto versions).

Oh, I had no idea they were doing /87 version of every judge card non-auto. That’s correct?

It’s been reported the non-auto sets will be given away as gifts to Topps party attendees.

That’s what they did last year with the Bryant set. Each of the 65 Transcendent cases last year had a single 1/1 Bryant auto card, featuring Kris on a Topps design between 1952 and 2016. Then, the 65 party attendees each got a gift bag that, among other things, contained a full set of the Bryant cards from 1952-2016, non auto, with matching serial numbers /65.

It’s been reported they will do the same this year with the 87-Card Judge Set, with the new wrinkle being that every non-Auto set given away at the party will contain a 1/1 with a Judge homer game jersey relic. It will be a different “year” relic card in each party set. Presumably the other cards in each party set will be numbered /87.

Great topic for discussion.

I personally feel these are for the hardcore Judge fan/collector. I have been tempted to go after several that caught my eye but the asking prices have kept me from adding one so far. I don't think they will have a set value as nostalgia and specific designs will speak to different collectors and each will draw different demand.

I think the jersey patch versions and the non auto versions from the party will give real judge collectors a great variety of options to add a design they love. I mean, Claw can't buy all 87 1986 non autos...can he?

With regard to how the non auto patch versions price, I would have to think they go under the auto version. I at least hope so because i have plenty of Judge autos lol.
