Hey, looking for opinions from anyone willing to give one. My question is he a good investment PC guy? I know he has a lot of strike outs but he also is still converting from a pitcher . That being said they say he has the best arm in the minors the only top onehundred prospect with a 80 rated arm. I'm not a prospector and I mostly collect vintage now. Any info or thoughts will be appreciated.

He has to be pretty high risk, right? His 2015 season put him on the map. He struck out a lot, but walked enough that his BB/K ratio wasn't disastrous, and ended up with a .907 OPS. Last year was similar, but he struck out more.
He could break out and hit a lot of home runs, but I personally wouldn't want to risk speculating. But I haven't been following his progress or anything. And he'll be 24 in April. I'll be watching him though, along with Chad Pinder, Matt Olson, and Ryon Healy. Any of those guys could be surprising, sleeper guys, but I'm not confident enough in my scouting skills to throw money at them, or anyone really. |

If its for a fun PC guy, I say sure. He has plenty of stuff to pick up now which is nice from a PC Standpoint.

He's cheap enough that it's not a bad idea. He's going to play in MLB due to his defense so he's already mildly 'safe' for an investment, and he has very good power, so there is a chance he could find some hobby love. As others have said, he does have contact issues so be wary of that.

Chris Davis ceiling offensively. Picked up a lot of his stuff when it was in the $3-$4 range. Not buying at current prices, but the hobby loves the long ball.

If he is Chris Davis with gold glove defense skills I would be all over that.
I'm more worried about buying up a few of his auto rc and then he's a complete dud. |

I just googled him and seen that chapman is a invitee to spring training. I guess
I can wait an see what he does against major league pitchers. Mr. Chipz I'm guessing Ryon Healy is who your talking about . I wouldn't mind picking some of his stuff up but since I'm focusing on vintage now I thought it would be a cheap way to stay busy with modern. I'm a Yankees fan so it doesn't have to be the As. I just like that he has great defensive skills and a lot of power. Where Healy seems more of average everything with a good hit tool. Last edited by Rookiemonster; 02-13-2017 at 05:09 PM. |

I followed the Athletics for a good while until they gave up AddRuss like idiots. I like Chapman with his defense and power. If he can hit .275 with the 35 home runs he'll hit,he'll be an All Star

Chapman is solid and will get a hard look for Oakland this year. Healy will probably be playing 1b mostly this year which opens 3b up when Plouffe is inevitably traded at the deadline. I like his power but his age and Ks worry me from an investment side.

Yes , it looks as if the A's will be be trying to put a lot of the prospects in to the major league team and make a push for a winning team . If anyone of these guys develop like they think they might have a good chance at a nice team for a few years .

So I bought a few of his cards since the original post.
Does anyone have new insight on Matt Chapman? Great defense and pop both seem to have translated to the majors. But is it real ? What's your take on the guy after a bit of major league experience? |

His hit tool is still suspect IMO...I'd stay away and go for someone else (that doesn't play in Siberia!).

Upside is Eric Chavez. I think Chappy ought to win the Gold Glove this year, but won't be surprised if he gets passed over for Machado or Longoria
