Actually, I misread what you wrote before. I changed my response.

That said, how so? Who am I trying to silence? The only people I'm trying to shut up are people who spread hate with their speech like the idiots with swaticas and confederate flags in Virginia. Just because I don't agree with your views on what is and isn't patriotic doesn't mean I'm trying to silence you. I'm stating my views and having a civil conversation just as long as it isn't personal.

TIL it's the same to use racist and homophobic slurs as it is to silently protest.

Both are offensive. I believe sitting down and eating a banana during the national anthem is far more offensive than saying the f word.

You compared anti-gay slurs (hate speech) to political opinions ie sitting out the anthem. Shortly after you said that you thought sitting out the anthem was worse. Therefore according to you hate speech is equal to or greater than sitting out the anthem

If that's how you define hate speech, then sure. I don't see what Kobe said or Matt Joyce said to be hate speech. But to each their own.

I do not think that you are trying to silence me. I was busting your chops on the MAGA hat thing because it is easy for us all to only see our side of the issues.

We need to be united on shutting down the idiots in Virginia. It is sad and scary that people like that exist in today's world.

Lmao. Google definition of hate speech. Tell me what Kobe said doesn't fit the definition to a T.

Glad we see eye to eye on one issue.

I'm 100% sure the LGBT community would strongly disagree with you and consider that hate speech

Exactly. These free speech guys would go crazy if it wasn't free speech that they agree with, haha. I'm not the guy who owns a MAGA hat but I can't even imagine the outcry that would happen if some dude was rocking a MAGA hat on the sideline. Haha

Pretty broad generalizations there. Take me for example. Peyton Manning golfing with Trump. Elway is a Trump supporter. I don't like it, but I don't change my views on these guys. They have there reason. That's there choice. And I guess I would consider myself a "free speech guy". Didn't realize the 1st amendment was so wrong.

Can we at least agree that getting angry over the sight of someone sitting is the epitome of a "snowflake"?

I'm not personally a fan of the term, but since it is a common internet term at this point and its definition is fairly well-established - are those who are offended willing to accept the label? Or does it only apply to the "other" side? Or does it apply to no one?

1st amendment protects hate speech, including your guys very very loose definitions of hate speech.

Our loose or the very definition of the term?

Saying what Matt Joyce said to a fan he didn't know is "hate speech" is kind of a stretch

And the topic is getting derailed. I don't approve of derogatory insults by players, I'm just saying professional sports leagues are allowed to punish players for their words/actions.

BTW, to totally destroy this argument, I'm a die hard Broncos fan..... DEFENDING AN OAKLAND RAIDER'S ACTIONS.....

Let that sink in for a minute for your factless broad generalization....

Edited to add- It is not patriotic to stand for the Anthem. It is a duty.
Bingo! That's what they need to start doing! They have every right to protest. The fans have every right to choose to protest by not watching/cheering for that team. The same as the owner has the right to cut their A$$!

I think some people see Kaep and Lynchs antics as pouting or childish and others see it as a big revolutionary step. many others are 'meh' on the whole ordeal

I've never worked for a company or institution that required participation in the national anthem.
