Default What are the chances...

...the excitement and hype of Lonzo Ball will drive the sales of 2017-18 boxes and cases, but during and after the upcoming season, it will end up being other rookies who demand more attention from collectors?

Ball will drive hype, but I think in the end it will be a Frank Ntilikina, Josh Jackson, or Jayston Tatum that surprises us.

Dennis Smith, Fultz, Fox, Monk. There are alot of guys who will drive hype outside of ball and may also be better than him.

Highly probable.

Let's face it...Ball probably won't be scorching the net and averaging 25+ ppg his rookie year. But he plays in LA and will probably be the most rounded rookie.

But there will almost certainly be another rookie that steals his thunder this year...maybe even multiple players.

I'm talking about the media hype of Ball, not collector hype. This draft class is loaded with potential stars (and busts). But Ball is getting most of the summer league attention/buzz.

That's tougher. He'll still be the media darling even if another rookie out performs. That's unless another rookie steps up and has an all star season out of the gate.

But Ball will always have the media eyes whether he plays good or bad simply because of the polarizing figure his father has made him out to be. Which was pretty brilliant, all things considered.

This will go down as a great class. Between Fultz, Ball, Tatum, Jackson, Fox, Monk, Smith and so on there will be some real gems. I also really like the kid Mitchell from utah.

I look at this class like the 2015 class where Russell went second to the lakers. 2015 had insane talent w Kat, porzingis, booker, turner, jokic but Russel cards still sold for a ton and he drew a lot of attention.

Ball has way more hype surrounding him and rates to put up better numbers this season than russell did as a rookie. Also out of the top picks in the NBA draft Ball is in by far the best spot to perform. Will be hard for Tatum or Fultz to put up huge numbers on such crowded rosters. Meanwhile Ball should get tons of minutes from the start and plays in the biggest market. So yea in the near future I think Ball is the most likely to be the #1 hype guy but that has just as much to do with the market and opportunity as it does his talent.

I think lonzo's hype will be year long especially since he's one of the most popular rookies in a while.

Hype will crazy this year. This year proved there's insatiable demand for RCs even when the class sucks. So this coming year... when the top 3 picks all went to huge market, storied franchises... the draft was loaded with guys from blue blood colleges... real chance the class meets or exceeds 15-16 on the court... it will be LIT. On top of this I think people are gonna still be card drunk from what's happening in baseball this year--I expect a lot of new entrants to the basketball prospecting game.

You specifically mentioned box/case prices being driven by Ball and attention of collectors in the OP. That is collector hype.

I've always been almost exclusively collecting baseball and football, but i'm definitely preordering a case of prizm this year.
