Probably some simple questions that won't matter.

What browser are you using?
What anitvirus are you using?
Can you get online and browse in safe mode with networking?

If it's only one computer, the issue is with the computer

plug your laptop into the modem directly with an Ethernet cord and repeat your tests...

At this point, back up all your documents, and reinstall Windows.

Sounds like a proxy setting or something similar inside the browser. I would reset IE before rebuilding windows. This will clear IE settings and bring them back to default.

Bought a lenovo almost a year ago and the hard drive crashed after a couple of months.

It's true the OP never told us what browser he is using. I presume/hope he tried different browsers...
