That closeout is not even close to the same. Curry spread his legs looking for the foul.

Zaza did an extra shuffle after the reach.

But the real reason why people think Zaza had some sort of ill intent is because of his dirty history.

Spurs could've used a few of those type screens seeing how hard it was for them to score last night.....

Look, we can comb the tape for every incident and go back and forth. What Zaza is getting is part reputation. He has video compilations, not of his great play, but of flagrants and fights. All these ex-players are saying it wasn't innocent. Not intentional, but not some "regular movements". Seems like we've been here before with this team..... Ex-players even admitting they have done the same and had teammates do it so they recognized it right away. And yes Bowen included.

Deed is done though. Shame we couldn't see the match-ups promised. On to game 2...

Maybe he just has a thing for MVP candidates

Don't get me wrong, I think he is a dirty player. I just don't think that particular play was dirty. You have a center closing out on a 19 foot shot. It's not something centers are accustomed to doing. His elbow to some dudes face yesterday was way dirtier than the Leonard play IMO.

One thing that's pretty crazy is there has been anticipation for a Warriors/Spurs conference finals for three years now...the Clippers and OKC stopped it from happening and then we FINALLY get it....only to see Kawhi go down...guess it's just not meant to be

Spurs fans crying about dirty plays when they turned a blind eye while they had perhaps the dirtiest player of the last 25 years in Bruce Bowen, lol...how ironic

Or that time Robert Horry hipchecked Steve Nash in the playoffs...

Spurs fan here. Already mentioned in this thread that Bowen was dirty every time he did this too. Same with Jalen, same with Dahntay, same with Zaza. I know some people can't take the homer glasses off but I call it like I see it.

Oh and that LaMarcus play that's being thrown into the discussion is not even close to the same as the Zaza play. You can clearly see LaMarcus attempt to stop his body as far from Curry as possible. Zaza made no attempt to stop his movement and instead chose to continue into Leonard's space. Simply put, LaMarcus stopped his momentum, while Zaza clearly keeps moving under Kawhi. Dirty play, JUST LIKE when Bowen did it.

Pretty pathetic that some people don't want to admit that Zaza could have avoided Leonard when it is clear as day.

Yup totally comparable. One incident versus an entire career of tripping, kicking, and ankle-biting by Bowen, lol

Glad to hear you admit it. Most Spurs fans I run into say Bowen just "played hard."

Don't get me wrong, I like Leonard a lot. He is fun to watch, and isn't a part of the "hey, look at how great I am" crowd that rules the NBA (James, Curry, etc), but Spurs fans can't really expect much sympathy given the past.

I hate stars being out (or not being at 100%) during the playoffs; the games just aren't as good as they could be.

Not sure if this has already been posted but Pop has a pretty clear take on the Zaza play:

Popovich sounds off on Pachulia - ESPN Video

From what I've read, most around the league believe it wasn't a clean play.

Mike Brown is ridiculous. Man up and say it was a cheap play and absolutely nothing like the aldridge play. To compare the two is embarrassing.

Curry actually is moving forward and sticks out his foot. But what's most notable here is how upset Curry and the Warriors were that a foul wasn't called yet they brush off Zaza's play like it's nothing. Ridiculous

It really is clutching at straws to even compare the 2.

Steph flails and is falling in to LMA who is just standing there.

Quotes from the same guy on bruce bowen.

“The people who cry about it are just frustrated about having to go against Bruce.” …
“The league is just trying to cover its a–,” Popovich said. “I told Bruce, ‘You be Bruce Bowen.
You’re the best (expletive) defender in this league. You will NOT change the way you play defense.'”

It's hilarious seeing people try to justify what Zaza did by citing curry jumping into Aldridge or even more hilariously citing Bruce Bowen. Hey guys come back to reality for just a second Bowen retired 18 years ago.

It's as much an admission of guilt as you'd find. It's like the snitch who know they're caught so they try to rat everyone else out. Then brings up ghosts of NBA past lmao.

Yep this.

I watched both and have to agree that the two aren't the same. Steph is jumping forward, Kawhi is jumping backward.

Simply because Zaza has a history of questionable plays I would have to say while he wasn't specifically intending for Kawhi to land on his foot he certainly did nothing to prevent it.

Like most times in basketball there's things a player should do just from a general safety perspective. While not truly intending to hurt someone doing certain things increases the chance an injury will happen. Personally I think that's what Zaza did. Everyone knows sliding under a player can cause injury so players will tend to do their best not to do it. Zaza just didn't try not to slide under Kawhi and it ended up in an injury.

So because Curry is jumping forward, he doesn't need to have space to land? What's the logic here?

Are those the most words he's spoken over the last year? He's a great coach, but a smug a$$. I did like his line about intent though. Maybe he should be FBI director. lol

I'm not sure he understands the difference between the defender sliding under the jump shooter while he's fading away vs the defender standing still while the jump shooter jumps into him.

I guess Aldridge should have just backed away as soon as he saw Curry coming towards him

Logic is hard for some people I guess
