This may be the first time I've ever agreed with you but I agree 100% with what you said. There is absolutely no justification for it and I'm surprised that a mod would see it differently. Unless the spouse was linked to the crime/scam/offensive act in some way, there is no justification for attacking them or posting their personal info.

Totally classless but some people think it's funny. In my mind, what it does is create a new victim. The people who dig up those photos, post them here, and roast them, might not be scammers but they are still pretty trashy. All it seems to do is take away from the point that is trying to be made.

If you scam this forum, I will post photos of your grandmother. If that bothers you, this is not the forum for you to scam on.

When someone was banned in the past, the information and reasoning was not shared. When I ban a previously banned scammer, I link the information together. If that makes it an ego boost in your eyes, so be it.

I get that you're trying to be funny here and you're good at that. An honest answer to your question though is that you are about as transparent as a sheet of glass. The thing about dictators is eventually the people get pissed off, rise up and overthrow them. Maybe the members here will never have that power and maybe they will. Even if not, many forums were once great and then died off, in many, many cases it was due to the mod's and how they treated the members.

Like I said earlier and like I've said 100's of times both in public and to you via PM, much of the reason BO is good is due to you and the work that you do. However, many people in history started out great and then let their cockiness lead them astray.

I get mocking scammers but people are getting beyond fed up about your continual attacks on good members. How you make the case that it is OK to out family and display their information on the internet just because someone they know allegedly did something wrong is beyond me. Not only is it illegal in most cases but it's immoral. The fact that you then mock those of us that take issue with it is disgusting. I'm anything but soft on scammers and you know that, you've even suspended me for attacking them too strongly (some mod did, may or may not have been you).

This next point is one that I'm not sure if I should attempt but I'll try to be as careful with the wording as I can. You continuously bring up how people have used your loss against you in an attempt to hurt you. You have said over and over how that is wrong and shameful and you are 100% correct. However, please tell me how what you are advocating is different. Going after someone's wife, girlfriend, grandma etc is equally wrong unless there is reason to suspect they were part of the nefarious behavior.

I'm not trying to war with you but this is the second or third time you've come at me in the last couple of days and I'm never one to run and hide. I don't want to be banned but I'm not going to cower either. I like you, I do but damn, Barry Bonds would like his size 12 hat back

Houdini is protecting the integrity of the forum and instilling fear in wanna be scammers. I don't get why you guys are going after him. Seems like a few here were looking for a reason to go after him and here's there chance to strike...

Unless the family is invloved, leave them out of it. It's pretty simple.

Going after someone's family or making fun of them is not protecting the integrity of the forum. It actually shows a lack of integrity on this forum.

We will use scammers' family to find them. I have no problem with it. We have done that on this forum for a very long time and will continue to do so.

Once we have found the scammer, I will generally delete that information from the posts.

As an example, we had an eBay scammer that used his daughter's name on everything. Really was no way around using that because it was all we had. That led to an article about her waiting for a Cubs game that led to the name of her scammer father. Once we had that, I deleted the daughter's info.

I received a mocking email some years ago from a scammer bragging about how he would just keep creating new accounts. He actually said something along the lines of "You can't post my name so I don't care what you do."

That policy changed that day and I can promise you it has made a difference. I have had numerous requests, demands, and threats to take down names and information. I have also had a few requests from family to remove the info too - the doddski thread comes to mind here.

If we didn't have the Rob Berg thread, he would still be trying to scam this forum right now. (And yes his grandmother is an innocent person but the only reason he stopped scamming was when his family info was posted - if that ever comes down he will scam this forum again. Listen to that video posted of the xbox scam on FB to see what motivates him.)

Now, should people make fun of the wives and gf of scammers? No, but on a list of what is really important in the scammer threads, the potential hurt feelings of a significant other is not on my list. In both instances the taunts and jokes were removed yet (even a year later) members are complaining about it. They use it as an excuse to insult the forum and it's members. If you insult a scammer's girlfriend, you are trash... so wouldn't insulting someone who insults someone also be trash?

Honestly, I guess if the greatest problem we are facing right now on the forum is people insulting girlfriends of scammers and an admin who bans scammers as some sort of ego rush, we must be doing ok overall.

I guess my final point is this, we have very few tools to catch scammers. We use what we have available.

I'd rather people angry that scammers are being banned or that their girlfriends are being insulted then scammers not being caught at all. While there is probably some middle ground in there somewhere... baby steps.
