I'd also say that in the past few days a few local guys have mentioned that deron has spoken to them about wanting to "right the wrongs" that he made while here. I'm sure he'd rather have a chance at a ring, but given that he still lives here and his relationship with a lot of the local guys, I wouldn't be shocked if we were number 2.
Well we aren't going to agree on whether the Jazz need help this year. So the guys I'd pay ahead of Williams won't be who you would. You can easily go younger.

Jazz aren't winning anything with or without Williams. You disagree.

You don't think they can win a playoff series? I know it's not a championship, but for us, that's pretty meaningful.

Playing Deron over Exum can be the difference between 1st round and 2nd round - including some extra playoff revenue.

Also, it would show Hayward that the team doesn't mind spending to win. Something big with him being a FA this offseason.

I agree that it could. It may not, but it doesn't hurt. And I don't see any other options at this point to get money ON the books now that the deadline is over. So, unless we like paying $2m for nothing, it seems to make sense.

I thought he wasn't eligble due to a CBA rule that prohibits players from going back to the team that they were traded from for a year?

The issue is that he had a stop in between. There was some deliberation on how the rule is written, but the NBA has clarified that he CAN be signed by GS.

Why would the Warriors take him? Javale McGee has turned into the steal of the off-season; Now starting with the "big-4" at the Center position. Dude is just so imposing and when his mind is right, he can be a legit force on the defensive end.

Javale has a lower basketball IQ than the shot clock.

Q- If you have a team of 3 of the deadliest shooters of all time, what is the only thing you can add that will make them better??

A- A player that has a 3ft shooting range and can set and get away with a huge amount of moving screens

This is what's wrong with the NBA, teams that are over the cap shouldn't be able to pick up guys off waivers.

It will be interesting to see where Deron ends up though, I'd put CLE at 99% chance.

Every single article that I've read has it as a foregone conclusion that he ends up in Cleveland..... every single one.

When it was reported just yesterday that the jazz were interested in trading an asset to get him.

Now they can have him for free, and there's nothing he or Cleveland can do about it... and suddenly they're not interested!?

I guess we'd rather have shelvin Mack and Raul Neto.

Doesn't make any sense.

And 73-9 teams shouldn't be able to pick up a KD either

Well the Cavs wanted to trade for Shelvin Mack... so Utah must place some sort of value on him.

Well unfortunately that's called free agency, blame Curt Flood.....not the CBA.

Sure sucks, though. Bummed me out yesterday.

I'll just collect him harder. It's not that bad for me, because I'm just starting to really, REALLY collect him. I still need a ton of low-end stuff, so I'm good on that front.

My favorite player in the league. Sad to see him go, but he'll thrive in OKC, imo. They are going to love him.

So, here' something I don't get:

Utah picks him up before he hit waivers
Deron reports and it's unhappy
They negotiate a buyout so he can go to Cleveland

Utah can save money like this; Deron can make some extra cash too. Is it allowed to buy out someone you picked up before he hit the waivers?

Utah must know that Williams doesn't want to go there... that's the only thing that makes any sense in terms of why Dallas just didn't trade him to Utah if Utah was really interested.

He has a no trade clause and he must have made it clear he didn't want to go to the Jazz. That's the only thing I can think of as to why Dallas didn't get something back for him.

It's definitely an interesting situation.

I can't believe Deron Williams has generated this much discussion in 2017.

I keep waiting for a report about the Cavs picking up Michael Redd on a 10-day contract.

lol!

Michael Redd was a straight baller for a handful of years. Shame what happened to his knees.

Yeah, he was awesome for a good stretch.

This actually made me wonder...what happened to his cards at that time? I'm sure there was a huge spike, but I hadn't returned to the hobby yet, and I don't think I've ever seen a high-end Michael Redd card.

I feel kinda bad. I'm going to look.

Well, he'll arguably be their best perimeter player after Kyrie and one of the Top 5 on the team.

Realistically he only needs to give them 10-12 solid minutes. If he can do that it'll be a good pick up. Anything more is gravy.
