I've found a few $600-800 jackets at Goodwill, and they looked like they had never been worn.

If/when you're ready to buy a suit(s), make sure you know about what you're purchasing. Here's a simple intro on suit construction:

https://blacklapel.com/thecompass/an...-vs-canvassed/

Depending on your body size/type, there are plenty of options that will compliment your physique...try to avoid fused suits if possible, as these will never look as good on you vs. a more canvassed suit. A canvassed suit will also mold to your body over time, and if taken care of properly, will last a long time. You should also be able to find a local tailor for small adjustments at an affordable cost.

That being said, if you cannot find one you like, I'd say to find a nice, deep navy blazer with dress khakis (not pleated). It would be within your originally stated price range, and do a nice, white dress shirt with brown/tan dress shoes.

had a horrible experience at jc penny and they don't do alterations. I did get the suit because they had a great deal and I needed at least one that fit OK.

MW is nice and has awesome deals, I got some shirts from there to replace some really old stuff, but they are a little pushy and like most places these days want everyone in slim fit shirts, pants and jackets.

Jos A Bank is owned by MW so take that for what it is

Plenty of places out there, you can always mix and match too. With solid colors people will never know.

i got a suit from Jos A Bank, and then took it to a local tailor for the minor alterations i needed to make it really fit my body properly.

they also offer tailoring/fitting in some of their stores. I would recommend this.

I spent a couple thousand at Jos A Bank and although it looks good but for the price Burlington wouldve been better.
