Default Optic or Prizm???

I am looking to maybe bust a football box for the first time this year. I know Prizm has been pretty hot, but Optic seems to be a little better value if you like on card autos and the true heir to the Chrome throne.

If you had to choose one or the other, which would you pick?

Optic. Optic. Optic.

Prizm is a basketball-centered product. It relies on limited backgrounds, a lack of action shots, and sticker autos. It's a cosmopolitan product that mimics the international sport of basketball.

Optic has already had success in baseball, has a nostalgic vibe, and fits more with the "traditional" vein of collecting.

In the sum of things, football is more like baseball than basketball and Optic should overtake Prizm in the sport's long run.

Prizm seems to have taken the lead as the base rookie "to have".

I agree, to this point, however we haven't even seen an Optic release for football yet, so Prizm may just have been a temporary placeholder now that Chrome is out of the mix. Panini certain seems to think it can pull off this one on card auto per box idea that Chrome won with year after year.

It will not help Optic that Prizm hit the shelves first. When Chrome and SP left basketball Prizm filled the void. When football lost SP as an option Chrome filled the void. I expect football to follow basketball's lead and adopt Prizm as the brand of choice because there is familiarity with the product.

I'm picking Prizm everytime over Optic. Since 12-13 Prizm has been modeled like Chrome(minus the on-card autos). Optic just doesn't do it with all the weird poses they have for the rookies(I know Topps did it but they didnt have empty stadiums in the background).

optic looks way better then prizm

donruss is like base topps

optic can be like topps chrome

everyone that keeps saying topps chrome and on card autos is forgetting that topps chrome had plenty of sticker autos

prizm is a pretty boring product

these are just my opinions though

if i had to choose it would be optic but both are overpriced just like topps chrome always was.

2009-2010 Topps Chrome would beg to differ. Some of those poses are downright silly (no helmets, unbuckled chin straps, leaping and posing mid air, etc).

I would also like to point out to the community that can't seem to retain anything that Topps Chrome was almost exclusively sticker graphs for it's entire existence. Bowman Chrome had some on card years, but it was stickers until 2014. It was also the little sister in Football, unlike Baseball.

If Optic has on card autos which I think it will then it's a no brainer.

Optic

Optic
Which may mean the autos might sell for more but not the base cards.

Prizm. People have seen the frenzy in basketball and it has carried over to football. I have had no customers come to me and ask for Optic baseball. More people are ok with sticker autos than there are who are on card only collectors. Optic will entice with on card, but really how long will it sustain? Chrome was on card and sticker thruout the years and I see optic being the same thing. People are already clamoring for Prizm. I think Optic will flop. Too much of a "cheap" stigma associated with Donruss.

I agree with this. Most of the hobby enthusiast prefer on-card autos but the average person who just wants an autograph of their player could care less. Prizm this year has so much value I don't know if optic can compete. I do remember optic had purple parallels in baseball. Prizm has a history and the vinyl and finites look great.

I think optic will do well because of the ZEKE and DAK factor, but the parallels in Optic might not pop as much based on the only break we have seen.

Technically, people probably don't ask for Optic baseball because of no logos on the cards, jus' sayin. The LCS I go to has the same three boxes of Optic sitting on the shelf collecting dust, meanwhile, he can't keep Topps Chrome or Bowman Chrome in stock, it all sells out.

That's the exact reason. And reason I only bought 2 boxes. I think i sold 1 hit out of it and maybe a few colors out of the quarter box lol

Optic baseball had its pluses but no logo usually kill it for the hobby people. I did pull a Seaver 1/5 throwback version auto. At BGS currently

Prizm is just so damn expensive right now. Can't justify paying $135 for a box that has 85 rookie autos in the set.. resale value is probably high but it's too risky imo.
